The Shen Family

The Shen Family had a large compound in the middle of the city. It was surrounded by a high wall and had several guards posted outside.

“I am Fang Qiong, daughter of the Fang family, here to meet the Shen family .” Fang Qiong told them.

The guard was stunned for a moment, “Lady Fang! You honor us with your presence. Please come inside.”

We followed him inside and were taken to a reception hall. We waited there for a few minutes until the head of the household arrived.

“I am Shen Jie, head of the Shen Family. To what do I owe the pleasure of having you in my home?”

“My family wishes to restart the negotiations for the marriage between our two houses.” Fang Qiong told him.

“Your family must be **** indeed. I remember your grandfather turning us down.” Shen Jie said.

“Yes, but things have changed since then. My grandfather has retired and my father has taken control of the clan. He believes an alliance with your family will strengthen us against our enemies.”

Shen Jie was silent for a moment, thinking. “I will consult with my family about this matter. You are welcome to stay in our guest quarters while we decide.”

“And who is this man?” He asked.

“My bodyguard.” She replied.

I bowed my head.

Shen Jie smiled. “Very well. he will be treated with respect.”

We were taken to the guest quarters, which were quite luxurious. We had a whole wing of the house to ourselves. There were maids and servants to fulfill our every whim.

“This place is nice.” I commented.

“It’s okay.” Fang Qiong replied. “But nothing compared to our own estate.”

“True.” I agreed.

Since I was a servant I wasn’t allowed to stay in the same quarters as Fang Qiong. I was given my own room in the servant quarters. It was much smaller and less luxurious than hers.

I went to bed early, so I would be fresh tomorrow.

The next day I woke up and got dressed. I then went to Fang Qiong quarters. A maid stopped me telling she is getting ready.

“Fine.” I replied and sat down.

A few minutes later Fang Qiong came out. She wore a red traditional qipao dress.

“Wow, you look amazing.” I said.

She blushed and thanked me. "The Shen family wants to meet me. We need to go”

I nodded and followed her.
