The Second Day

Dav woke Helena a few hours later, telling her it was her shift on night watch. “I didn’t see anything, and Van said the same.”

“Alright, thank you. Get some rest while you can.”

Due to the darkness, there was no point to trying to keep an eye out. But Helena’s magically enhanced hearing would be a huge boon.

At least, it would have been had anything tried to approach during her shift. But fortunately for her and her companions they went unmolested.

The sun rose, and Helena woke her companions with the smell of breakfast. It was nothing fancy, but she knew how to make the most of food while on the road, and Dav and Van were very appreciative. “Thanks for the grub, Helena. Leave cleaning up to us,” Van said.

Soon enough, they were on the road again. But this time, they didn’t take turns napping as they had the day before. They were approaching the orcs’ territory, and they couldn’t be certain when danger would arise. Could they make it through without a fight? Only time would tell.
