The Runaways Marching Off Again
"Governor," you begin gently "we do not wish to mean ill on you and certainly do not wish to disrespect the King. Circumstances being what they are, I'm afraid we must ask for a smaller reward, and anonymity. It is imperative that none know of us or our whereabouts."
"Oh?" She crosses her shoulders and furls her face "Am I in the company of convicts or some other ne'er do wells perpetually on the run from the law?"
"On the run, yes. Refugees would be more accurate."
"Refugees? What a motley collection of souls would be seeking refuge together?" Her demeanor was bemused "please, continue"
"Three of us hail from the Kingdom of Shazo. We are wanted for treason there."
"Yes" She replies "**** the Princess would do that" Her face turns stern and knowing, immediately aware of the situation "Shazoan runners and messengers have made their way into our lands." The governor extends a hand towards Trevolia "given that this enchanting young woman seems free to go about as she wishes, and is not under any mortal distress or any signs of **** or a struggle, clearly there must be some mistaken identity."
You laugh gently "Thank you Governor." The princess and the others quietly nod their heads in agreement.
"I'm sure we've got something in our hold befitting truly noble adventurers such as yourselves. Please, come with me." Traveling with additional guards now, the governor leads you on a small journey through the city. Already, the citizens are hard at work rebuilding what was destroyed. Nobody is giving you credit for your victory, nobody is blaming you for causing this mess; in your mind that's probably the best case scenario. You arrive at what seems to be some sort of fort or bastion. Removing her own personal set of keys, she opens it up to reveal a secure vault. It is filled with various treasures, most of them too large and conspicuous to be taken out of here, even if you could overpower everyone.
"I think these should work well for the lot of you" She opened the trunk and pulled out five gray, drab, seemingly pedestrian cloaks. "I know they don't look like much, but that's the point, try them on." Joan, being the most curious, affixes the cloak over her, and her most distinguishing traits seem to fade away. Far be it from an invisibility cloak, but your eyes play tricks on you; she just doesn't look like anyone.
"For a group trying to not be seen and avoid recognition, these should be exactly what you need."
"Governor" One of the guards starts to speak up.
"The holds haven't been inventoried in years. What the King doesn't know won't hurt him." She gestured to the door "This is where I leave you now. If anyone asks where our intrepid heroes went, I'll tell them that they must have ran away in the middle of the night."
"That's us" Trevolia said with a smile patting your shoulder "We're the Runaways..."
You all walk out with your magic gifts and huddle together. Joan speaks up first "Runaways? We must be real adventurers now if we have a name for ourselves"
Lita smiled "Oh come on, I like it. Only question is, where are we running to?"
"Any direction will work" You said "Preferably not the direction we came from"
"West it is" Joan replied loudly, walking off as the conversation was now closed "I also like going west..."
