The Qrow Tax

Ruby thought about it for a minute, trying to figure out what she could offer to pay for masks for the both of them, when her mind caught on something.

He said that having Qrow in the building was a pain.

Having been trained by and lived with Qrow from time to time for most of her life, Ruby was well aware that while she thought her Uncle was one of the coolest people ever, that also came with an understanding that there was a reason that he was always constantly wandering.

Frankly speaking, his Semblance was a major pain in the butt, and not just when you were fighting him.

Qrow's Semblance was of the 'always-on' variety, which are quite rare and usually very powerful due to the low Aura costs of using them, but Bad Luck isn't exactly something you want to be causing at all times.

As she recalled, many of the restaurants back on Patch would always charge Dad extra whenever Qrow joined them for a family dinner, often not even hiding it and calling it the 'Qrow Tax' on the check.

And with that memory in mind, Ruby made her offer.

"I'll pay the Qrow tax for the night."

"...The what?"

"The Qrow Tax. You see back on Patch, we'd sometimes go out to dinner as a family, and sometimes Uncle Qrow would come too, and it was usually pretty nice, but his Semblance was always on, and-" Ruby, still caught up in the memories, started to ramble.

Only for Junior to bring her back to Remnant. "Hey, Red, condense it, what do you mean, 'the Qrow Tax?'"

Ruby returned to the present. "OH! Right, sorry, uh, the 'Qrow Tax' is basically just charging whoever is paying extra for whatever was probably caused by Uncle Qrow's Semblance."

Junior thought about it for a second, then grinned. "Alright Red, that oughta cover it, though I'll still be docking your sister back to what she would be making if she'd chosen No Mask in the first place." Seeing Ruby about to argue, he continued, "You're the only one paying right now, and given the agreement we've got, I'd be within my rights to let her finish the night with the mask and pay nothing at all."

Ruby kept her mouth closed at that.

"With that settled, I'll send Miltia to give your sister the run-down and a mask, in the meantime, here," Junior pulled a mask out of his desk and tossed it to the red-head. "go ahead and put it on and get back to work."

Doing so, Ruby made her way out of the office as Junior started using the intercom to pass orders around the club.
