The Plan

Kazuma and Satsuki sat there in silence for a moment, taking in all they had just been told. Satsuki broke the silence. “Wait a minute,” she said as she turned to look at her mother. “Why didn’t you or dad tell me this before?”

“Well, we didn’t want to overwhelm you with too much information,” Yuzuha replied as she avoided eye contact with her daughter. Kazuma, Satsuki, and even Ariawyn stared in disbelief at Yuzuha upon hearing her excuse. “Nevertheless, we should get back to the situation at hand,” Ariawyn quickly said to get them back on topic. “What happened at the Morisawa residence was clearly not the work of a human, which is why I was called in.” Hearing that brought Kazuma’s thoughts back to what he saw. The sight of his parent’s mutilated bodies began to dominate his mind. His face, which had lite up with excitement and curiosity on learning of the supernatural world, had reverted back to one of shock and depression.

Next to him, Satsuki noticed that he had gone back to how he was after seeing his parents. She gently reached over and took his hand into hers. I have to be here for him now, she thought to herself. Even it is hard on me too. While she did not know Kazuma’s parent’s as well as he did, she was still saddened by what had happened. She didn’t see what had become of them, but her vampiric sense of smell was able to tell her it was not pretty.

As this was going on, Ariawyn began to explain the plan. “Since we do not know who or what was behind their ****, or even the motivation, we will have to be extra careful,” she explained as she looked over everyone in the room. “For tonight, all of you will stay here and I will be on watch. Tomorrow, we will be moving to a safe house until we can confirm that Morisawa will not be attacked.”

“Why don’t we leave for the safe house now?” Satsuki inquired. Ariawyn turned to look at her and answered. “It is possible that whatever murdered the Morisawa, it is more powerful at night. And the officers investigating the scene were unable to discover how the killer got in and out of the house with all the doors and windows locked. It might have some ability to enter secured structures or vehicles that do not use magical protection. Transporting someone under those circumstances would place us at a severe disadvantage.” As she finished her response, she stood up and walked towards Kazuma and Satsuki.

“A colleague of mine is setting up a temporary barrier around the house that should keep us safe for tonight. Just in case the barrier is breached,” she paused for a moment as she fished something out of her pocket. “Wear these,” Ariawyn said as she handed two small bracelets to the couple. “These will alert me if your life is endangered.” Satsuki quickly took a bracelet from Ariawyn, however Kazuma was slow in reacting. It took him a moment to realize he was being given something. “Oh, sorry,” he apologized as he reached out and took the remaining bracelet from the elf. “Here, let me put that on for you,” Satsuki offered as she gently took the bracelet Kazuma had taken and secured it around his wrist.

Upon being secured, Kazuma felt a brief, odd sensation from the bracelet, but he did not give much notice to it. Satsuki felt the same thing when she equipped her bracelet.

“Why don’t you go take a nice, warm bath?” Satsuki cheerfully suggested. “Yeah… that sounds good,” Kazuma replied, still a bit out of it. The two got up and were about to head up stairs when Yuzuha stopped Satsuki. “If you don’t mind, I could use Satsuki’s help with something for a bit,” she said as she grabbed her daughter’s arm. “Why don’t you go on ahead?”

“Ok,” Kazuma said, still distracted by all that had happened. With that, he started up the stairs for the bath room. Once he was out of sight, Yuzuha turned towards her daughter. “What are you doing, mom? I need to…” Satsuki began to protest before her mother put a finger over her mouth. “It’s alright,” she said quietly. “I know you want to be there for him. I just wanted to tell you that he should be good for at least two more shots.”

“Shots?” asked Satsuki. “What do y…” Before she could finish her question, she figured out what her mom was saying. “Now you see what I mean,” her mother continued as she smiled. “Now go take care of your man, he’ll really need you through all of this.” Satsuki picked up the sad undertone of her mother’s voice. It seems that the **** of the Kazuma’s was also hard on her too, but she was doing her best to make sure they were fine before taking care of herself.

Satsuki nodded, before turning to follow Kazuma upstairs. I hope I can control myself this time, she though as she started up the stairs. It would really suck if I… Her thoughts were interrupted when she realized some one was behind her. She stopped and turned to see her mother following her up the stairs. She was annoyed at the idea of her mother tagging in on her comforting her boyfriend. Though, there was a part of her that wanted her to join them. It was like a little voice in her head whispering sweet promises of ecstasy. “Are you following me?” she asked, after she pushed those thoughts to the side.

“I was going to wash his clothes” Yuzuha answered. “He doesn’t have anything else to wear tomorrow.” Hearing that made Satsuki relax a bit. “Sorry,” she said as she continued up the stairs.
