The Plains Clans

In the vast ice plains and frozen wastes of the west there are very few creatures who survive. A number of hardy plants manage to survive here and there all of them every bit as tough as the ground they grow upon. From what you are told of the plains you don't quite understand how such a place can support such large creatures as the mammoths. It is commonly held by the other clans that the mammoths must be getting their food from somewhere else, but only the plains-dwellers would know anything about that and they tended to be very secretive about their ways. The plains dwellers often had to deal with the large ice wolves and tigers, but there were occasionally more anomalous threats such as the mobs of Snow-Scuttlers which could pose a serious threat as could a wayward Rockbiter or two. Yet even there in the frozen wastes it was the Raghik that was most feared. The general lack of fauna on the plains meant that if the naturally voracious Raghik wandered onto the plains they were even hungrier than they usually would be which made them all the more reckless.

There were more than a few notable figures of this kind that achieved a measure of fame amongst the Ardri. Those that you remember personally are as follows.

Azargur the Wind-Worn was the first of the Ardri to tame any beast larger than a Rot-Rat. His taming of a mammoth was unheard of and his ways led to the general survival of those who followed him and learned. He challenged a Raghik later in life than most after having seen almost 40 summers in his life. His battle with that Hell-Boar proved that even a mighty mammoth is no match for a bloodlusted Raghik.

Banok the Restless was the first of your kin to successfully trap a Rockbiter, and was well known for his wily ways. The Rockbiter he trapped ultimately ended up causing his doom when a number of Snow-Scuttlers were drawn to the sounds of the Rockbiter's struggles. Banok, his mammoth, and his trapped foe were devoured alive by the chittering horde of Scuttlers.

Glimka the Harsh was the only Ardri known to have tamed a Rockbiter. It is not known how he did this but it is believed that he trapped it as Banok did before him and subjugated it with the Old Magic. He died when his Rockbiter startled his mammoth and caused it to trample him.

The plains-dweller with the most followers is currently Inslod the Observant. The stories say that Inslod has done the seemingly impossible, learning to accurately predict wind storms days in advance which has saved many a life. He is also rumored to understand the hunting patterns of Snow-Scuttlers and thereby has been able to avoid unwanted contact with them entirely for years. He is currently one of your number as well. He is short for an Ardri, being only 6ft tall and weighing about 160 pounds. He has coal-black hair and a thin face with sky-blue eyes, he always appears to be lost in thought.
