Chapter 5 by Zeebop Zeebop

How did the timeline change this time?

The Photos Show Sue Storm Using

Sue Storm blinked as she stared at the photos. One moment, she had a memory of being a little ****...just a little drink to help loosen her up. Now as she stared at the photos on her phone, she remembered it wasn't just the booze. The heroine frowned as she saw the line of white powder on Mae's cleavage—and Sue's nose was pressed against it, hoovering up the Peruvian flake.

It had been the first time she'd done cocaine. Her heart had hammered so hard she thought it would explode out of her chest. Sue had felt as if she was invincible...that she could do anything. Or anyone.

JVD: Not just drunk, I see.

SSR: Mae and I just needed a little something to...loosen up. It was only the one time.

Even as Sue Storm said it, her memory seemed to play tricks on her. That night had been crazy. She and Mae had done—well, a lot more than she'd intended. As the pictures showed. Janet Van Dyne seemed amused as she uploaded more photos. A dazed-looking younger Sue, a bit of white powder on her nostrils, was lip-locked with Mae. They had forgotten about the camera in the passion of their ****-fueled make-out session.

The guilt of that night had haunted Sue for years. The next morning, she had sworn off ****—dedicated herself to a life of sobriety and good deeds. Her youthful indiscretion had become part of what made her a heroine.

In his laboratory, Reed Richards focused on the readouts of the more advanced version of the flux chronometer he had just developed.

"Remarkable," Mr. Fantastic said.

"Stretch, yer the only one that knows what the heck yer lookin' at," the Thing said, helpfully. "Explain for the rest of us?"

"I'm back-tracking the source of the changes to the timeline. Repeated changes at a specific point result in the creation of a nexus of probabilities, where timelines can split off into wildly divergent directions," Reed explained. "This advanced flux chronometer is tracing the changes in the timeline. Doom—or someone—is using a device that presents the creation of alternate timelines. However, more than that, the changes appear to be extremely localized. They're trying to affect the life of an individual, but despite what appears to be an increase in the chronological flux, the timeline is showing only minor divergences."

"So Doom keeps changin' the timeline, but it ain't doin' much," Ben said. "That's good, right?"

"No, it's very bad," Reed said. "It means that Doom is going to keep trying, and do something more substantial to try and derail this individual's timeline."

*PING*

JVD: It was just the once? You never tried **** again?

SSR: Well...
