The Nobility Path

The robed men opened a book and text started to fly above the page, appearing above everyone's heads. They showed our names. When I touched it, my hand went right through it and I could feel my hand start to get a bit cold.

"Good day everyone. You all know what today is so lets cut to the chase. This guild will be on lock-down for the rest of the day. We have already contacted schools, healing specialists, and researchers to stay outside and help anyone that comes here seeking assistance. Things like quests and selling products would have to wait until tomorrow, my apologies. Until then, nobles will come in one by one with their assistants. If the assistant walks up to you then follow them. It means you were chosen by their noble and will be lead to one of the various rooms where the rest of the program will take place. Once you are bred, you will come back here. I'll mark your name off my book so no other nobles attempt to breed you this year. Afterwards, I'll examine you myself. This will make sure that you are bred and that the noble hasn't placed any curses on you. Everyone understand?"

Gina didn't understand. She understand the rules, how things would go, but why do all this? Why breed everyone? The Kingdom says that its so they can become the smartest nation, but is that really it? Do they not care about how we feel? And even if someone has the genetics to make them smarter, then what? They could still go down a life that doesn't involve research. This could all be for nothing.

Yet, I stayed quiet.

The robed man nodded his head and stood to the side of the door, keeping an eye on everyone. Gina looked back and forth between him and the knights. She wondered if they were really needed. The way that he conducted himself, he seemed like someone more than capable enough to protect himself.

Eventually nobles started to enter. It was one at a time like the robed man said. A few stood in place when they saw Gina, quickly glancing at the robed man who would shake his head in response. They'd then let out a tick, find the guy or women they came for and head to the rooms. Finally, Gina's noble showed up. Their assistant walking straight towards me.
