The Longest Five Minutes Ever

After exiting the manor, Reinfast and I passed through the garden. At least, I did. Reinfast got distracted. He was picking flowers. I sighed deeply.

“What are you doing?” I asked impatiently.

“Hmm? Oh, I heard your party had a pair of beautiful maidens in it. They shall both be mine. These flowers are merely the first step.” Reinfast said. What a jackass. I was already starting to regret picking this request. “Here, carry them for me.” He shoved the inexpertly picked bouquet into my hands.

Finally, we managed to leave the Vasquez estate, the guard saluting Reinfast as we passed. I decided to try some small talk.

“So, Reinfast,” I said.

“What?” he said, clearly annoyed.

“Your father said you were level 8. How long have you been adventuring?” I asked.

“This is my first request,” he said with pride...for some reason. Dear lord, we’re all going to die.

“What class are you?” I asked, passing the heart-bannered house.

“I am an esteemed High Knight, the second tier of the Knight class! Impressed?” he said, doing a pose.

“Moving on...” I muttered, ending the small talk. We exited the Noble’s Ward, heading back towards the staircase to the lower quarter. On the way down the stairs, Reinfast got distracted again. This time he was flirting with another adventurer.

“Ah, mademoiselle, you beauty brings light into this dark world,” Reinfast said, his best attempt to woo the stranger. “Oi, commoner, a flower quick.”

“Me?” I said, pointing at myself, dumbfounded.

“Yes, commoner, quickly now,” he whispered. I gave the poor girl an apologetic look as I handed the flower to Reinfast. He gave the girl the rose, putting it into her hair a bit too forcefully, nicking her forehead with with the thorn, drawing a bit of blood. “Now, how about you and I take a visit to my mansion, and I can show you the garden. Then, I can show you the bedroom.”

She reeled back and slapped him, knocking him on his ass. She took the rose out of her hair and threw it at him. She spat at his feet and walked off in a huff.

“W-what the hell!?” Reinfast exclaimed in shock. I had to restrain my laughter. “That commoner bitch! How dare she! I’ll...I’ll...I’ll have her arrested!”

“Calm down,” I said, lending him a hand to help him up. “We still have a request to do.”

“Very well. I suppose there are more ladies to woo elsewhere. That one can be allowed to get away...so long as she doesn’t cross me again.” he grumbled, straightening his clothes. I figured that was probably the best I’d get out of him, so we continued on down the stairs. The guards at the bottom of the stairs gave Reinfast a salute as he passed, as well as shooting me a glare.

“So this is the peasant quarter. It has such a...unique smell,” he said, pinching his nose.

“Uh, it’s called the lower quarter,” I said.

“What did I say? Whatever. Let’s move along, I’d rather not be here longer than I must.” he complained. Finally, we arrived back at the guild.
