With the work day over, you grab the bottle of champagne from your bag and make your way downstairs. “Hey, you done for the day?” you say as you enter the engineering department.

“Huh, what time is it?” Akasuki says up from her workstation at the clock. “I didn’t realize it was this late already. Let’s pop that bubbly.” She grabs the champagne from you, and gets to work on the foil and cage.

“10 years. Seems like just yesterday that we opened up shop,” you say as Akasuki pops the cork, pouring the both of you a glass.

“Well here’s to the next 10 being even better,” she holds up her flute waiting for you to cheers to the future. With a clink of your glasses, your anniversary celebration is under way. “This celebration is already going better than our first day. Remember how you blew me off for a hook up?”

“Hey! I offered to cancel that date, you’re the one who made me go,” you say pointing your glass towards her.

“Mmmm, like I was going to have you cancel your first date in years. At the time I didn’t know if you were ever going to get over Ragdoll.” Ragdoll, Tomoko, you still think fondly of the hero, but after your last encounter fizzled out again, you gave up hope that you’d end up with her. “You talk to Mae recently?”

“I ran into her at the store the other day,” you say remembering the sighting of your ex-girlfriend. You and Mae had broke up last month just shy of your 1 year anniversary. “She looked really happy with her new guy.”

“Yikes,” Akasuki winces. “You okay with that?”

“It’s whatever, plenty of other fish in the sea and all that,” you say not sure if you’re really okay with seeing your ex moving on so quickly. “You finish setting up the nursery yet?” you change the subject.

Akasuki gives you a glance, telling you that she sees what you’re doing. “Yep, last coat of paint went up last weekend and I built the crib the other night,” she says flashing her fingers as a variety of screwdrivers and Allen wrenches. “Iyasu can’t wait to not be pregnant, well I mean we’re both ready to be mothers, but you know what I mean she’s huge and miserable,” Akasuki mimes her wife’s pregnant belly. Your sister and sister-in-law had gone to a fertility expert that had a quirk that temporarily gave Akasuki the 'right equipment' to impregnate her wife.

“Well, Uncle Ren will be ready to babysit any time,” you say excited about your future niece.

A loud boom comes from outside. “What was that?” Akasuki asks. Several subsequent explosions follow. “Turn on the news.”

You flick on the tv, tuning into the local news station. “This just in All Might is fighting an unidentified super villain in Kamino Ward of Yokohama. Destruction is widespread and expected to continue. If you are in the area, authorities advise evacuation.” A map of the ward flashes on screen showing the location of the confrontation, with multiple egress paths highlighted.

“We need to get out of here,” you say realizing the clear and present danger your office’s proximity to the event puts you in. You and Akasuki stand up ready to evacuate, when the workshop wall explodes.

The room is filled with dust and rubble is everywhere. You try to stand up but can’t. You’re pinned down by a steel beam. You can’t get out from under it and you definitely can’t move the beam. Panic sets in. Trapped yet again, the rubble around you reminding you of the snowy avalanche. “Ren, are you okay?” your sister’s voice calls out.

“I’m stuck, but I think I’m okay. You good?” you shout back, trying to control your breathing. The dust in the destroyed room making it harder on top of your claustrophobia.

“Yeah,” Akasuki answers climbing over some nearby rubble. She inspects the beam resting on your legs, checking out what is supporting one in the rubble of the office building. “Okay, let’s get you out of here,” she says. You’re still frozen in fear, on top of being pinned. You watch as she transforms her legs into hydraulic lifts from the knees down. She positions her legs under the beam, extending the lifts to support the beam. “Come on stay with me now,” Akasuki says trying to snap you from your panic induced haze.

“I-I-I can’t move. You should just go, get out of here get back to Iyasu.”

Akasuki’s hand is now a large socket wrench, she places her ‘hand’ on the oversized bolts holding the beam to the wall. “I’m not leaving you, my daughter is going to need her uncle,” her wrench hand twists removing the bolts on her side of the beam, “Plus I don’t want to be the one to tell Heiwa what happened. Now help me get the other bolts.” She drapes her arm over the beam, and blindly searches for the bolts on your side. The mention of your niece, and cat, help to ground you in the moment. You grab Akasuki’s wrist and guide her hand to the bolts. “AAAAHHHH,” your sister screams in agony as the last bolt is loosened.

You scoot backwards clearing you legs of the beam. “I’m out,” you tell her and the beam falls to the ground. Akasuki collapses backwards, and you can see the cuts and bruises covering her once again human legs. The stress on her hydraulic lift legs was too much. It hurts to walk, but you push through it and help Akasuki up. With her leaning on your shoulder, the two of you limp out of your destroyed office building.

The streets are filled with people evacuating the area. You follow the crowd hoping to avoid any more injuries. Akasuki can barely walk even with her body weight mostly leaning on you. “Let’s get you home to that beautiful wife of yours.”
