The Jenkins meeting
The rain had stopped and even inside with the AC on, Jodie could feel the humidity was higher now than before and wondered how people lived like this. Adam had one of the thick binders for the account in his lap, taking the final minutes before they went inside to look it over, like he did on the plane ride here and almost every recent day leading up to this. It was odd to see someone who didn't act confident, Adam just was confidence personified most of the time, but each day that got closer to this deal to acquire Jenkins LLC he fretted more and more about it. "Adam, like earth to Mr Wesker!" She saw him look at her with a small smile and close the binder.
"I know a lot of my time and focus has been on this, but after I close this deal things will get better. They won't be able to deny me the next VP spot that opens up and I can focus on things that are really important in my life." Like how much more you can grow that bank account and what you can brag about to your yacht up buddies or whatever you do, Jodie thought. "Like paying off that apartment and making more money?" Jodie said, not daring to say the rest. "It is a condominium honey, and no. So I can focus more on you." Adam said as he leaned over and pulled Jodie into a long kiss.
This all was driving Jodie crazy and she squeezed her legs together as his other hand started to touch the skin just above the stocking tops. As he did that though some occurred to her, how through all of this as she felt more stressed she just wanted the comfort of Eric, someone warm, familiar and dependable and wondered and hoped maybe that is what she was to Adam with the stress of this deal. "You don't have to say things like that if you don't mean it." Adam tilted his head to the side, wondering where that came from, but he really had been obsessing over this and even when he was away from work he was often thinking about it.
"I like totally know you don't date anyone for long, it's like okay if you want this to end after the trip, like really. You won't hurt me, we can still be friends." You Hugh Hefner wanna be, take the offer! Jodie mentally screamed. Adam gave Jodie a sad smile that gave her a little hope. "Jodie, no… Jordan Applegate you are not just anybody. You are spectacular, I don't know if this is because I haven't given you the attention you deserve, or if you are looking down on yourself for not being as smart as others. But I will tell you now, you are worthy of anyone's affection you desire. You have a wonderful soul Jodie, even if you refused to share that slice of cake with me." Often Jodie didn't feel worthy and dammit this was supposed to give him an out to take, not make her feel mushy inside and have to fight back tears. With a sniffle tried to blink away the tears and she slapped Adam's shoulder. "Adam you jerk, don't make me cry." Adam chuckled at her and watched as she touched up her makeup one last time before they headed into the building.
Inside the two of them waited in the lobby of the manufacturing facility where the owners wanted to hold the final meetings. Sitting there next to Adam, Jodie wondered if she had time to sneak off to the bathroom. She was sure she would feel better if she took the matter in hand, but didn't want to risk missing the start of the meeting, that at this point should have started twenty minutes ago. There they sat for another forty minutes, making Jodie curse herself for not taking the chance when she had it. Making them wait exactly an hour was a power move. One Adam waited out without hesitation. When they were brought up to a large conference room Adam gripped the out stretched hand of a short over weight balding man with a thick brown beard, age having grayed much of it. "Mr. Wesker, a pleasure to finally meet you, and who is this lovely creature?"
Still holding the first man's hand Adam pumped it a few more times. "This is Ms. Applegate, my assistant, and you know you can call me Adam by now. I'm happy to see you and your brother are feeling better." The Jenkins brother looked at each other confused. "The message we understood was that you were late because you weren't feeling too well. We were more than happy to wait to see if you would be able to see us. I can't imagine any other reason the both of you wouldn't contact me directly about having to wait." The other brother was just as short, but he was lean, with his head shaven instead of dealing with the same balding look, narrowed his eyes. "You were told we were sick?" Letting go of Walter Jenkins' hand, Adam gasped the others. "Of course, why else would I wait? If I thought either of you were just trying to make me think you were making me worry about a deal or asking for more money than we agreed I would move up my meeting with McKinney over in Tampa."
"You never said anything about McKinney!" Walter the heavier of the two said. “They are your direct competition with your latest product. From what I am told theirs is cheaper to produce and they have a patent on it.” Walters face started to turn red. “A CHEAP KNOCK OFF!” he yelled, his brother looked frustrated, knowing this was going to set him off. “You know, that is exactly what I told the CEO last week when we were having lunch. He was onboard with me coming to you first, he likes good solid products, ones created by salt of the earth people like the two of you. The person running acquisitions though is sure once the CEO sees how much money we saved with going to McKinney with a deal would change his mind though. He is one of those silver spoon in the mouth from the moment they were born types. The truth is I am one of those too, but I value people, not just money. I think if we acquire the Jenkins name we would leave it on the company, invest and expand production and spend a little on marketing. Everything else will come in because of what you made.”
The group hadn’t yet sat down, just stood before the table as if this was part of the pleasantries of saying hello. “Why should we trust Mega Corp to not just take us apart and sell what we made piece by piece, you all have done it dozens of times.” Adam paused and looked as if he was thinking for a moment. “Tell you what, let’s have a seat and I want to show you something.” As the group went to sit down Adam spotted a pitcher of water on a counter to the side with glasses and if the hosts weren’t going to play their part, he would make sure it still got done. “Ms. Applegate, would you mind getting us some water and hand me the red binder.” Jodie didn’t like being regulated to serving girl, and the two men tracked Jodie as she moved with their eyes as Adam pulled to the spot he needed, and the skinnier of the two wasn’t bashful in the least with how he pinched her ass when she bent over to place the glass of water in front of him. When that was done Jodie sat down in one of the nice office chairs at the edge, crossing her legs and pulling out a pad of paper to write down what they discussed. As she felt one nyloned leg touch the other she couldn’t help but move them and rub them together. The feeling was wonderful, she always loved touching a girls legs when they wore pantyhose and now she was living it. Most days the thrill wasn’t there, but today sitting here while she could smell one of her recent favorite scents she really wanted to excuse herself to the bathroom or fuck if she got under the table and blew Adam like she had done when he had a meeting in his office he wouldn’t be able to see her jerking off. She couldn’t do that, could she? No, no it would have to wait. Jodie stopped suddenly, looking up from the yellow pad of paper listening to the others talk about market shares this and market shares or percentages that. Looking back down the only thing she had written on the paper was a “Mr. Wesker can be trusted to do what is financially best and that… then just a doodle of a erect dick. “Fine we will consider the offer, can’t believe we are even considering going lower than we talked about before we came here. This is ridiculous, fucking Mckinney.” Jodie could see Walter still red in the face as he considered whatever it was Adam had offered them. It did not sound like the plan he talked about coming here with or what she remembered being in the paperwork, from what little she gathered. Then his eyes turned to Jodie and he smiled. “Why don’t you give us the night to think about it, and we can discuss the details with your lovely assistant tonight over dinner?”
Jodie didn’t say no, didn’t shake her head, just looked at Adam with pleading eyes. To refuse could sink this entire thing and yet she was terrified of being used like one of the secretaries from the pornos he used to watch, and what he knew some of the execs used their girls for. Adam smiled at Jodie and gave her a wink. “Afraid not boys, this wonderful woman is all mine. If you would like her to discuss some details with you, I say we all head to lunch. She isn’t the type to have a head for numbers, but she can tell you about the personal aspects of Mega Corp and how we take care of our own.” LUNCH, how was it lunch time, how long was she zoning out Jodie wondered. Looking down at the thin women’s watch she saw it was past twelve, they had been sitting here for over an hour. “Lunch sounds good, and I would love to hear how a snake like you got a charming lady like this to tolerate your company.” The barb sounded playful, but Jodie couldn’t let the insult lay there, specially if she was to talk about the company protecting its own. “Adam… Mr. Wesker is no snake, those are.. Eww. He is more of…” Jodie’s voice trailed off again as she thought of how to describe him in a positive light. “The kind of man that if a girl held him tight and closed her eyes she can remember her favorite bear back home.” Wesley smiled at the sweet comment while Walter burst into laughter. “Spoken like a love sick girl, you have charmed her and I need to find out how so I can have one just like her.” Adam stood up and moved behind Jodie’s chair, putting his hands on her shoulders. “She is one of a kind I’m afraid. Now how about you text me where we are going to lunch and we will meet you there.” Jodie tried to bring the notepad close to her chest when Adam stood behind her, and hoped he hadn’t seen how little she had done or the little drawing.
