The Intern

Gwenneth Violora did not drive. She had someone for that. The limo drove through the gate to the company garage, manned by a single orcish security guard. "Are you listening to me?" Gwenneth straitened up. "Yes, Ma'am, I am to tour each of the departments." Saris nodded. "Good. Why?" Gwenneth swallowed. "I should understand the role and workings of any of my subordinates, both so that I can direct them efficiently and to demonstrate my competency as an effective leader." Saris nodded again, she had no intention of allowing an unworthy successor to bring shame upon her clan name or to ruin the company she had spent her life building. She checked her schedule for the day while Gwenneth sat, waiting.. Placing the two next to each other, one would be hard pressed to find differences between them. Both were lithe, graceful. Their dark purple skin contrasted with their white hair, although the way that they were styled was quite different. Saris's hair was drawn up into a no nonsense bun, while Gwenneth had hers loose over her shoulders. Saris wore a grey pencil skirt and matching jacket, stockings, heels and a white blouse. Gwenneth wore the same but in a dark blue minus the jacket, with her sleeves rolled to the elbow. The limo came to a stop in one of the reserved parking spaces.

Her driver, one of the offshoots of clan Violora, climbed out of the car and opened her door. "Ma'am." He gave a curt nod to Saris, and stood to the side, just as his training demanded. Saris stood exiting the limo, all elven grace. Gwenneth climbed out behind her, following. She walked in time to the matriarch's steps, one half step back and two steps to the right. Just as she was taught. They stepped into the private elevator the glossed doors closing behind them. "I'm starting you in the Information Technology department." Gwenneth nodded. "Run by Arther Penn, reporting to Dannysa Shiavereth." Saris's lip twitched in what might have been the barest hint of a smile. "Miss Shiavereth is an excellent asset to this company, and Mr. Penn comes from her highly recommended. I've let him know that he'll be 'showing you the ropes' as it were. Find out if he's sleeping with Miss Shiavereth." Gwenneth nodded. "Yes Grandmother."

The doors opened and Saris stepped out and turned. "I expect you will not have any problems this week. Come back to my office and we'll share lunch." Gwenneth gave a small smile. "Thank you." That was as much grandmotherly affection she was allowed, both here at work and socially, for propriety's sake. The doors closed and the elevator began to drop to what was waiting below.
