The Guild's Official Response

Tritera was spending another boring evening on mirror duty, seriously considering quitting the council and going to explore the outer wilds. Yes, people frequently had their organs inverted or were torn to shreds by invisible insects but at least they weren't bored while doing it. She was just about to float over a glass of Jasmine's experimental vintage wine to take the edge off when something strange started happening to the mirror set to monitor things across the infinite ocean. That mirror was very rarely used, with mirror walking casters didn't have that much need to travel by boat but you'd sometimes get a case where a crew of casters set out to confirm that the infinite ocean was indeed infinite and found themselves distressed by some deep ocean beast or another.

This was not such a case, in fact this mirror was picking up a vision from a slightly altered world where no one had any good way to determine who was talking and all voices sounded the same. What a strange world. An image of a girl faded slowly into view, she was

Looking over the last minute changes she had made to her outfit. If it wasn't for the pink underwear she had on, she'd be wearing the standard school outfit of a white shirt and black tie, a short black skirt, and black shoes. She smirked in satisfaction at her appearance.

Without any way to tag such things she doesn't seem to notice that she says this part out loud.

It's uncanny how normal a thought that is for teenaged girls to have. Tritera must be intercepting some other sorcerer's transmission because she feels curse magic slide past her and around her wards making its way into the poor bitch's soul.

That's a nasty curse. She'd need to have the judiciars look into this, cursing random vain girls in strange tagless worlds wasn't explicitly against guild rules but it probably should be. Whoever cursed this girl casts a spell on the mirror to turn it invisible and have it follow her around. Without anything better to do Tritera sits back and opens that bottle of wine anyways, this sure beats normal mirror duty.

The curse caster seemed to get bored of the story and turn the speed up first 5x and then 10x. This is mirror magic beyond Tritera's understanding but she isn't complaining. The girl leads a tedious life without magic and everyone is incredibly mean and unlikable. At least the world was interesting, they had these massive metal machines they rode around in and all their buildings had implausibly perfect right angles. They had mirror magic too but not mirror walking, just tiny mirrors that they kept in their pocket so that they could say mean things to each other even when separated.

After an hour for Tritera but a few days for the bitchverse another mirror blazes to life. Oh yeah, Jessica was supposed to come over after Mirror duty ended. Tritera casts the spell to open the mirror for her to come in. The two of them talk over a couple more glasses of wine until Jessica notices the scene.

"What's going on in that mirror, are we being watched?"

"No, during mirror duty I picked up a weird connection to a strange other realm"

"There are other realms?"

"Yes, it's really advanced mirror magic to tap into them though. No one has found a way to mirror walk to any of them either so they're mostly just a curiosity for extremely talented charms specialists without much use besides entertainment. I noticed someone from our realm cast a curse on the... black haired one, I forget their names. I can't keep track of who is talking because they all have the same voice, anyways the black haired one has to do whatever anyone tells her and apparently not a single person in her life knows dispel magic."

"Wow everyone has the same voice in their realm and you can only tell people apart by context? That's so weird. It's got to make it really hard to listen in on conversations and have any idea what's going on."

"That's right Jessica, they have to say each other's names all the time."

The situation explained and Jessica clearly being more interested in getting a view into this world than going over the more interesting topic of which first year she was going to sleep with next Tritera moves the mirror to where both sorceresses have a good view as they start working on a second bottle of Jasmine's wine.

The two girls, who have said each other's names frequently enough that everyone is now clear are called Marcie and Gina, have aged a few years since Tritera first saw them. The curser must have decided to skip some of the more boring bits. They're now reviewing stories on some kind of lore book repository. They're going over a story about some kind of "artificial intelligence" which appears to be a kind of golem that a strange branch of mirror casters can summon to run their life.

"Wait, Tritera, so this guy suddenly came into magical "computer" powers and then immediately started getting **** to be a woman..? That sounds familiar..."

"Yeah, sounds like a good story. These girls must just have bad tastes, not surprising considering how they act"

The mirror goes blank for a moment and the girls are back reviewing a new story. This one is about a more grounded topic, wizards.

"Triter, what is a fantasy story? Is that just another word for fiction?"

"I think so, I've never personally read it before but they're just describing stories set in the real world with normal things like magic and kingdoms."
