The Director's Exposition

"Stephanie. You're awake" Dave heard as he came to.

"My names not Stephanie!"

"Tsk tsk tsk" the woman, whatever her name was, said, "you know Stephanie...there are two things I like. Computers and private enterprise. Two simple things with massive abilities.

"A computer is simple. You simply tell it what you want it to do and then it does it. I remember, when I was young people said the most powerful computer is the human mind. Isn't that fascinating?"

Dave noticed he was strapped into a chair with a metal helmet with cables attached to his head.

"The only difference is that the human mind is a bit more finicky on doing what you tell it to do- such is the case with you Stephanie. Not that it can't be done, but like with computers you have to take a back door approach.

"As far as private enterprise, the person that has more resources is more powerful and capable. And when a client is willing to pay for a service, your only obligation is to them. And my client wants you. They want Stephanie. I don't know what for and I don't care. All I care about is fulfilling my client's needs.

"After I push this button, a year will have passed. You will have been Stephanie for that year and sent back here as for a tune-up. If there's any part of you that exists within that time. I want you to really consider your priorities. Do you want to be absent from your entire life? Or are you willing to be obedient in a life that was chosen for you?

"I don't care either way. You'll leave in the same state regardless."

She leaned over and looked deep into your eyes.

"Well Stephanie. Yes, you in there. See you in a year."

She then pushed the button and a surge of electricity poured into his head as he felt the room and the world get father away.
