Chapter 9

Do they follow her advice, and if so where do they all go?

The Council Hall

Seeing the newcomers **** the siblings decide to escort everyone to the one space in the village large enough for the whole party to be indoors in case of rain, the Council Hall. Normally no one under the age of 30 is allowed in there but since there is no one OVER the age of 30 left, they already broke that bit of Kapu when they were searching for survivors after the raid, and the spirits did not strike them dead: they think that this law has been rescinded until there are people over 30 to form a council again.

On the way Hilua stops by her house and finishes making the Poi that she had been working on when her brother got her, producing enough for everyone to have a few mouthfuls so they don't become snappish and irritable.

When they reach the Council Hall everyone is directed to sit. There nearly is an international incident when Chuck tries to sit in the roped off Chieftain's chair but they avoid a violation of the major Kapu, at least for now.

After about 2 more hours of the two linguistics experts talking, and everyone trying the Poi, they reach the point where they are able to communicate basic concepts back and forth, and the situation is explained...

How do the Americans React?
