Chapter 10 by CrusaderLH

Lesson?

The Children of the Night

In order to distract himself from her…and his hunger…he opened the copy of Dracula on his desk. He looked at Ariana, and said. “Though I hope you all have read some on your own time let’s pick up where we left off Friday. Ariana, why don’t you read?”

When she spoke her voice was sensual, seductive, like the most enrapturing music. He couldn’t help but imagine what it would be like if that voice called him Master. Ariana read: “The Count’s eyes gleamed, and he said:- ‘Listen to them- the children of the night. What music they make!’ Seeing, I suppose, some expression in my face strange to him, he added: - ‘Ah, sir, you dwellers in the city cannot enter into the feelings of the hunter.’” (Dracula, Bram Stoker, Chapter Two, 1897)

As she read Darius felt almost drawn to the wolves of the night…then as she finished that line the ACTUAL howls of wolves could be heard from outside the University. Many students shivered, and looked towards the windows in fear. Ariana though looked at Darius, her eyes locked on his. Without thinking about it he exerted some hypnotic control over her, and her own look of fear became more serene.

A male student looked out the window and gasped. “Oh shit! There’s actual wolves out there!” Though the town was medium size, it was surrounded by woods. Those on the outer edge of the town had heard wolves, but the University was in the center of town, and no wolf had been seen near there ever. Most of the students began to panic, but not Ariana, who serenely sat there still locked in Darius’s gaze.
