Chapter 4

The Butterfly Effect

The first rule of time travel is that actions in the past have unintended consequences. This is common knowledge for anyone who has never tried, and is therefore useless. Crono and his friends could have used this rule, but despite their experience traveling through time, they never learned it. This bit of ignorance bit them on the butt several times, in one case in the form of a naked woman.

During the course of their adventures, Crono often stopped by home to see his mom, eat a home cooked meal, and sleep in his own bed. Sure, the fate of the world was at stake, but the nice thing about being a time traveler was that you never needed to hurry. So he flew Epoch, their flying time machine, down to in front of his house, walked inside, and found his mom naked in the kitchen.

"Aaah!" He turned away and stared at the ceiling, trying to blink away the image of his naked mother before it burned its way into his long term memory. Sure, his mom had the house to herself while he was off saving the future, but did she have to stop wearing clothes so soon?

His mother, however, didn't scurry to her room to put something on, muttering apologies or scolding him for not knocking. Instead she said, "Crono, dear, is something wrong?"

He turned back to her, hoping that he had simply imagined her being naked, which would by horribly embarrassing and he would never mention the experience to anyone as long as he lived, but nope. She was still naked. Butt naked, head to toe, no clothes at all. And she looked remarkably good for her age—_stop—_with large, round breasts—shut-up—a flat stomach, just the right amount of curves, and a neatly trimmed—

"Aaaah!" He turned away again, and resisted the urge to claw his eyes out only because then the last thing he'd ever see would be the naked image of his stunningly gorgeous milf of a—shut-up, shut-up, shut-up!

"You already said that, honey. Are you okay?"

Crono made an attempt at coherent speech, and against all odds, he succeeded. "You're naked!"

He screwed up. He wasn't sure how or when, but at some point in history, Crono screwed up hard. His mother always wore clothes before, but now …

"What are you talking about?" his mother asked. "Of course I'm naked. Is something wrong? Are you sick?" She came closer to check his fever and probably offer some other motherly ministrations which were embarrassing enough normally—Crono wasn't a little kid anymore—but if done naked would send the awkwardness level over nine thousand.

So he did the only thing he could. He ran out the front door and jumped into the flying time machine.

"That was fast," his friend, Lucca said. "What's wrong?"

"Get us in the air," he said. "Get us in the air now!"

The Epoch lurched into the sky, and far below Crono could see his mother come out of the house and look up at them. He was too far away to make out any details, but he knew she was still naked.

His friends gave him sidelong looks, waiting for him to tell them what had spooked him so much. Well, there wasn't much he could say besides the naked truth.

"Guys," he said solemnly. "We have a problem."
