The Breadwinner

"Wow!" Zack exclaims pointing to a structure just ahead and to the left of the couple "That one looks nice!"

Victoria looks at the end of his fingertip and follows it to a cabin off in the distance, just another three hundred feet away. "Definitely one of the bigger ones!" the blonde replies "This might be the best one yet!"

Closer and closer they get to the end of the short driveway leading up to the cabin. They stop at the mailbox at the end and look down, gawking at the cabin before them.

"I absolutely love that entrance!" Victoria tells him "It just looks...so classy!" she smiles at the stone walkway up to the huge double wide wooden doors, the giant glass windows on each side that curve around the top of the door, causing a point. The amount of ferns and beautiful plants around the entryway just making it look so inviting.

"Classy...and super expensive!" Zach blurts out, nudging the girl in the side to cause her to get back into this reality.

"Yeah yeah!" she purses her lips at Zack "Can't a girl dream?"

"Come on!" he steps behind her and starts to walk up the road again, "Let's keep going forward, see if we can find a cabin that we may actually be able to afford someday!"

"Hah! If that's the case, we may need to find some run down, beat up cabin not on the lake." she skips forward to get back to Zack's stride.

The two continue their walk, side by side up the gravel road. They pass by multiple other cabins, each one a little different from the next. Some more expensive and large, some more homely and mediocre sized. The one thing in common, every single cabin that surrounds Silver Lake is way out of their imaginative couple's price range.

"Yup..." Zack looks ahead and sees the stop sign to the end of the street a few hundred feet up the road "Whelp, doesn't look like any more cabins!" he stops and turns to Vicky "I"m sorry Vicky, I don't think we can afford any of these." he shrugs.

"Darn it!" Victoria stomps her foot and looks at Zack with her best angry eyes "I can't believe you don't make more money to spoil me! Come on Zachary!" she teases.

"Me?!?" Zack steps forward, softly pushing Victoria on both her shoulders causing her to step back "You're the one who is someday going to make it big in the world! You'll probably be publishing the best stories in the Metro City Times! Interviewing all the celebrities and actors. Hell, if anybody is making more money it's gonna be you!" Zack stomps his foot in return, mimicking the actions of the blonde and giving his best angry impersonation.

Vicky's body stays still but her eyes roll up as she thinks"W-Well..., maybe someday, if I keep practicing and eventually go to college for journali...wait a minute..." she raises an eyebrow at you "How did you know I want to get into journalism and write either in the paper, magazines, internet or start my own blog?"

"School paper." Zack shrugs, thinking nothing of it.

"Y-You read it?" she asks, slightly taken back that a boy in the school actually follows along with the newspaper. She always assumed she just did it for practice and nobody really read many of the articles in the paper, especially since so many high school kids think of it as nerdy and don't care to be informed about school issues or politics.

"Of course I do." Zack smiles at the blonde "And I have to say you're a damn good writer! Like, really good."

Victoria just looks at Zack, trying her best to read him. She's never really talked with Zack too much or really got to know him. But something about him just clicks and she likes it "T-Thank you Zack." she smiles "That means a lot!"

"Anytime!" the boy is giddy with her response. He actually feels he's making some steps in the right direction with his secret crush. They are small steps sure, but just like the tortoise versus the hare, even small steps can lead to major victories. "Sooo, want to turn around and head back or...?"

Vicky thinks briefly causing her nose to scrunch up and lines to form on her forehead "Or what?" she eventually folds her arms over her chest.

Zack points just ahead of them, another fifty feet up the road or so "Go check out what that sign is?" he shrugs "No clue what it is but it looks like the sign points down a path?"

Victoria pivots in her stance and looks off where Zack is pointing. In the distance, a small wooden post with a sign on it. Almost like a trail marker pointing in a direction which leads down a path into a wooded section "Hmm..." she rubs her chin giving it some thought.
