Chapter 16

What's next?

The Battle

The strategy session in the guild hall the night before was intense. Mirajane and Marcus led the planning, outlining the defensive measures and attack strategies. With Ada out of commission, we had to rely on every ounce of strength and skill we possessed.

Marcus stands at the head of the table, a large map of the town spread out before him. "Our main objective is to keep the orcs out of the town. We'll set up **** points at the main entrances and use the narrow streets to our advantage. We'll funnel them into areas where we can control their numbers."

Lily comes into the room carrying a bag full of potions on her arms and massive chest. She's all carrying dark bags under her eyes. "I've been working all night guys. Everybody takes a bottle and go fuck up some orcs alright ?!" she says slamming the bag on the table before collapsing out of fatigue on it."

As the meeting concludes, Mirajane gently takes me aside. "Ada wants to talk to you," she says quietly. "Come with me."

Curious and a bit apprehensive, I follow her to Ada's room where she is recovering from her injuries. Ada looks pale but determined as she beckons me closer.

"Marcus told me you ate fire yesterday," Ada begins, her voice weak but steady. "Is that true?"

I nod. "Yes, it's true. I don't fully understand how it happened, but it did."

Ada's eyes narrow with thought. "Listen carefully. Do not use your fire today."

As the morning progresses, we gather in the town square, the heart of our defense. The citizens who can fight stand ready, their faces a mix of fear and determination. Each fighter holds a vial of Lily's potion, ready to drink it when the time comes.

I take my place alongside Marcus at the main entrance. My mom and Jasmine approach me for a final moment of encouragement. Jasmine steps forward first, her eyes full of love and determination. She leans in and gives me a passionate kiss, her lips warm and firm against mine.

"Stay safe," she whispers, her voice trembling slightly. "Come back to me."

My mom follows, her eyes glistening with unshed tears. She cups my face gently and plants a maternal kiss on the corner of my mouth. "I love you, John. Be strong. We'll be waiting for you."

I nod, feeling a surge of emotion and resolve. "I love you too."

Mirajane takes them and the non-fighting civilians to the underground cellars.

The sound of distant drums and the rumble of footsteps signal the approach of the orc horde.

As the first orcs appear on the horizon, we drink our potions and prepare for the fight of our lives. The enhanced strength and speed surge through my veins, and I grip my weapon tightly. They orcs charge driven by bloodlust and wild ****. The ground shakes under their feet. With Marcus's rallying cry deafening my ears, we brace ourselves, gripping our weapons tightly as the horde crashes into our defenses.

The initial clash is brutal. The orcs swing their massive weapons with terrifying power, each blow capable of being fatal. I dodge a wild swing, barely managing to stay on my feet. Summoning all my strength and mental focus, I strike back. Each swing of my weapon is a **** effort to hold the line.

Nearby, Uryu engages two orcs at once, his sword a blur of motion. "Dance, Grimmjow!" he says, his blade glowing with a silvery light. Despite his skill, he struggles against the orcs' brute strength, and I move to assist, managing to wound one of the orcs enough for Uryu to finish it off.

"Thanks," he pants, barely catching his breath before the next attack.

Lorenza, the archer, stands on a rooftop, her bow infused with magic. "Hailstorm Arrows!" she calls, releasing a flurry of enchanted arrows that rain down on the orcs, each arrow exploding into shards of ice upon impact. Her precise aim slows their advance, but the orcs continue to press forward. Gregor, the older warrior, fights with a combination of physical prowess and earth magic. "Stone Skin!" he shouts, his skin hardening to stone, deflecting the orcs' blows until their repeated assaults penetrate.

Despite our efforts, the orcs' sheer numbers and strength are overwhelming. Each blow we land feels like a small victory, but the threat of **** looms with every swing of an orc’s weapon. I fight through the exhaustion, my muscles burning and my breath coming in ragged gasps, knowing that any misstep could be my last.

Just as the situation appears dire, a powerful voice cuts through the chaos. "Hold it!"

Marcus charges into the fray. He slams his shield into the ground, creating a glowing barrier around us. "Fortress Shield!" he shouts, the shimmering dome of energy deflecting the orcs' blows and giving us a momentary respite.

With Marcus leading the charge, the mood of the battle shifts. His confidence and strength inspire us, and we fight with renewed vigor. He channels his magic into his axe, the blade glowing with a fierce light. "Titan's Cleave!" he bellows, swinging the weapon in a wide arc. The enchanted axe cleaves through the orcs with devastating ****, sending shockwaves through their ranks and scattering them.

"Stay strong, everyone!" Marcus shouts, his voice unwavering. "We can hold them off!"

The sight of Marcus taking blow after blow, yet remaining steadfast, reignites our resolve.

Fairy Tail manages to gain ground against the relentless orc horde. The fighters' spirits lift as they push the orcs back, their magical abilities shining in the chaos of battle. Just when victory seems within reach, the remaining orcs suddenly grow in size and strength, their roars echoing across the battlefield.

A dark, commanding voice cuts through the noise, and Kargalgan reveals himself. The orc mage stands tall, a menacing figure adorned in dark robes, his eyes glowing with malevolent energy. He raises his staff, casting a spell that reinforces his soldiers, infusing them with even greater power.

"Humans," Kargalgan sneers, his voice dripping with contempt. "You think you can stand against me?"

Fairy Tail fights back valiantly, but Kargalgan unleashes Gravity Magic, causing an oppressive **** to weigh down on us. The air grows thick, making every movement a struggle. Fighters fall to their knees, some fainting and others getting nosebleeds from the immense pressure.

"We're doomed if this continues," Uryu gasps, barely managing to stay upright.

Marcus and I exchange a determined look, knowing that we have to take Kargalgan down. We leave our post, dodging through the chaos to reach the orc mage. Just as we approach, Kargalgan raises his staff, a smirk on his lips.

"Is this all you have?" he mocks. "Pathetic humans."

He conjures a massive fireball, its heat searing the air around it. The orb of flames grows larger, capable of annihilating all of Fairy Tail and most of the city.

"Prepare to die!" Kargalgan shouts, launching the fireball towards the city.

Marcus and I each take out another potion given to us by Lily and drink it in one go. The potion surges through us, enhancing our strength and focus. Marcus steps forward, his shield glowing with a brilliant light.

"Shield of Valor!" he cries, focusing all his strength. His shield diverts the fireball into two beams of flames.

"Now, John!" Marcus shouts.

Ada's advice echoes in my head "Otherwoldlers are blessed with unique talents. Eating fire is the proof you are able to use an ancient magic with devastating lethal power. Do not use your flames until Kargalgan shows himself and conjures a fire spell of his own."

With all my might, I take a massive breath, vacuuming Kargalgan’s fire into my mouth and swallowing it. The intense heat and power of the flames surge through me, threatening to blow me to pieces.

"Using Kargalgan's power, you will be able to defeat him. Because you are..."

Kargalgan's eyes widen in shock. "A Dragon Slayer... after all these years?"

"Now it's my turn," I declare with burning confidence.

As I launch myself into the air, the battlefield below becomes a blur. The wind rushes past me, carrying with it the echoes of the fierce battle we've been fighting. As I try to conjure fire of my own with my opponent's power, my mind unexpectedly drifts to my previous life.

Back then, I was just a young man without prospects for the future. I had no girlfriend, no friends to rely on, and often felt like a burden to my family. Every day felt like a monotonous struggle, and I questioned my worth and place in the world. I remember the endless days of feeling isolated and directionless. The loneliness was suffocating, and hope seemed like a distant dream.

But now, as I soar above the battlefield, everything has changed. I am no longer the aimless young man I once was. Here in Earthland, I have found a purpose, friends who stand by my side, and a newfound strength within myself. The support and love of my mother and Jasmine, the camaraderie of my guildmates, and the thrill of discovering my own abilities have transformed me.

My rage and hope conjure flames in my right and left hand. The two streams of fire swirl into a giant fire ball sharding off numerous sparks like a million burning petals brushing against my skin. "Take this !"

Kargalgan, realizing the threat, conjures a beam of dark light, aiming it directly at me. Our two attacks collide in a massive explosion. The shockwave reverberates across the battlefield, kicking up a thick cloud of dust and debris.

Silence follows, the battlefield obscured by the swirling dust. The oppressive weight of Kargalgan's Gravity Magic lifts, and the members of Fairy Tail begin to stir, trying to figure out what happened.

A gust of wind sweeps across the battlefield, clearing the dust and revealing the scene. Kargalgan stands still for a moment, his eyes wide with shock. Then, with a final, defeated breath, he falls to the ground, landing on the burnt corpses of his men.

I stand alone in the aftermath, victorious. The fire within me still burns brightly as I lift my fist to the sky, letting out a rallying cry that echoes across the battlefield.

The men around me join in, their voices rising in an eruption of joy and triumph.
