That night

That night John ate dinner with Kimberly and the kids. The food was delicious. Kimberly had become the perfect housewife after six years of marriage.

John lived alone and cooked his food after coming home from work so he never had delicious homemade meals like this.

He gulped down his food eagerly and asked for second servings. Kimberly was happy to provide and John almost felt home again.

"Do you have a girlfriend John?" His half-sister Holly asked him after dinner. It still felt weird how much she looked like a young Kimberly.

"No I'm very busy with my job so I don't have time to go on dates." John replied. Kimberly looked at him curiously hearing his response.

His half-brother Cody was excited to learn everything about his big brother. "You and mom were in the same class weren't you?"

"Yes we were. We even worked on a chemistry project together back in high school." John felt nostalgic when he remembered the teenaged Kimberly.

Kimberly looked nostalgic too. "That was such a fun time. It feels like a lifetime ago now. I wish we could go back."

"Me too." John felt that longing again. He remembered how happy he felt studying with Kimberly when they were high school students.

It was such a carefree time. He never could have guessed that their lives would turn out like this.

After dinner John watched tv with Kimberly and Cody and Holly. For the first time since returning home John felt like he was with his family instead of strangers.

It was getting late so Kimberly tucked Cody and Holly into bed in John's old bedroom. John went to sleep in the guestroom but he couldn't sleep.

There was a knock on his door later than night.

It was Kimberly and she was in her night dress. "Can I come in?"
