John lets her in

"Sure." John let her in.

Kimberly sat on the guestroom bed. "I can't sleep."

"Me neither."

John and Kimberly looked at each other silently. A whole minute passed but neither could find any word to break the silence.

"I wish we could go back to how things were." Kimberly finally spoke. She looked beautiful even without any makeup.

John felt that longing again. He had a crush on Kimberly back when they were teenagers. The years had only made her more attractive. She seemed the perfect woman in his eyes. But he could never have her could he? She was his father's widow and the mother of his half siblings. John lost her forever the night she became his stepmother and when she gave birth to his father's babies.

But humans desire what they can't have even more. John wanted Kimberly now even more than he had when they were teenagers because she could never be his now. She was the one forbidden fruit he could never have no matter how much he wanted her.

"We can't go back to the past. It's too late." John hid his feelings.

But Kimberly touched his face gently. "It's never too late." She said then suddenly kissed him on the lips. John felt time freeze but in a good way.
