Chapter 12 by King Broston King Broston

Does anything get in the way?

Thankfully nothing

As Fiona dragged Devin through the dense crowd, they knew they were getting closer to the carriage. The hustle and bustle of townsfolk was getting more and more problematic until finally they reached a sudden clearing in the middle of the town square. A regal looking purple rope hung from in front of the crowd that surrounded them on both their left and right. keeping the onlookers from taking a step forward.

To add security to today's events, royal guards that had been dispatched by the empire stood at stations around the rope, making sure nothing would happen. Moving his eyes to his left Devin could see an entrance into the open square where the rope split apart, multiple guards stood at the entrance, helping guide people into a long line that led directly to the carriage, there were so many different people from all walks of life gathered in the line. With just a brief look over them one would be able to spot several different races, be it from dwarves to beastmen orcs and humans.

Thankfully at the entrance there were several guards that would assist with escorting people to meet up with others in the line. All Devin and Fiona had to do now was shimmy their way through the crowd and ask for an escort to his mom and sister.

Finally after looking over everything else, Devin settled his eyes on it, the thing that would change his future forever and set him on his new life path, for better or for worse.

The carriage he was looking at was one of the most beautifully crafted and regal looking carriage he had ever seen, a massive vehicle at least as tall as his house, with six large golden wheels each engraved with symbols, most likely enchanting runes that had be written to give the carriage various abilities, most commonly used for carriages were protection runes, though runes that offered more quality of life changes were likely added as well, potentially for easier transportation or to ease the weight of the vehicle.

The frame of the carriage was a criss-cross of golden arches and almost glowing oak panels, accentuated by purple fabrics that hung from various parts of the carriage. The most prominent feature was the massive open double door on the side facing everyone, a purple curtain hung in front of the entrance, blocking the inside from view, yet under the curtain if you looked hard enough you would be able to make out a blue mystifying glow.

At the front of the carriage was a sight to behold of its own, eight stone golems each modeled after horses stood at the front, with reigns attaching them to the carriage. Each was quite a bit bigger than a normal horse. One would think they were normal statues if not for the obvious dark blue runes carved intricately across each of their bodies.

Devin was no stranger to golems as they were fairly common among the working class, often helping with moving trade goods and building materials here and there. Yet those would be crude and blocky, often being more of a pile of rubble, nothing like these ones, with careful grooves marking hairs in their mane, down to the hooves that curved perfectly like carved clay.

That was enough staring in awe for Devin, he needed to find his mom and sister as soon as possible.

With a tug on Fiona’s hand, Devin took the lead in guiding Fiona over to the entrance.

She had seen the carriage here and there, as it did come around every year, yet every single time she saw it, she could help be awed, it was like nothing you have ever seen.

Devin shuffled awkwardly through the sea of people and finally arrived at the entrance.

Now to meet up with his family.

It's finally time!
