What will he do now?
Test the waters with a kiss
A flicker of surprise caught in his chest, stealing his breath for barely half a second. Even across that sliver of space, the heat of her body reached him, making the distance between them feel almost non-existent. Any lingering uncertainty faded beneath the quiet assurance in her eyes. Affection softened her expression, warm and settled, and Winston’s pulse quickened under the weight of it.
And Wintson found himself staring again.
The sweep of her features, the blue of her eyes at this distance, the proud stature that made him lift his gaze to meet hers. She seemed even more beautiful now that the regal reserve had fallen away. For a few heartbeats, Winston did nothing. He simply drank in the sight of her, dazed by the ease with which she had crossed that distance and a little greedy for every second she remained this close.
Then he rose toward her and kissed her.
The answer came immediately.
Warm lips met his and the last scraps of Winston’s composure slipped away. Soft at first contact, they yielded under the pressure of his mouth, then firmed enough to steer the kiss where she meant it to go. The rhythm never stumbled. Each slow shift of her mouth answered his almost before he finished it, drawing the kiss deeper under that quiet insistence.
She tasted faintly of wine, with something cooler underneath, clean as water left on the tongue. When her lips parted, her tongue found his without hurry. It slid against him in long, deliberate strokes, curled, pressed, then drew back just far enough that he followed without thinking. Their tongues tangled in that measured exchange until he could no longer tell which of them had started the last motion. Every small adjustment carried the same patient certainty, as if she had known for years exactly how he would answer her.
Strong arms circled him, closing the final trace of space between them. A smooth pull brought him flush against her, his weight caught and steadied with effortless strength. Warmth spread along his chest where their bodies met, softness yielding beneath him while the secure hold around his back kept him firmly gathered against her.
For a few suspended heartbeats, there was nowhere to drift. Winston hardly wanted there to be.
That same patient assurance remained in every lingering movement of her mouth. Even here, wrapped around him in an intimacy that had stripped away so much of the earlier ceremony, the queen in her had never disappeared. Her composure had simply softened into tenderness, certainty becoming care. The embrace around him tightened almost imperceptibly, enough to make the intention behind it felt, while the kiss continued with an unhurried devotion that seemed utterly natural to her.
The other stayed locked across his back, holding him upright with the same unbothered strength, as though his weight cost her nothing. Her freed hand drifted down between their bodies, slow and certain, until warm fingers found the front of his trousers. They settled over the hard ridge of his erection through the cloth, pressing lightly, measuring him with calm assurance.
Hippolyta drew her mouth back from his only far enough to speak. Her voice came low and steady against his lips.
“Shall I handle this for you, my lord husband?” she asked, "I am your wife after all."
