Chapter 16 by Villaromani Villaromani

Where can I find Sunny to talk to her?

Talk To Sunny

After Spanish class, I quickly try to find Sunny. I know she always hangs out in the cafeteria at this time, so I immediately go there. Like expected, I find her sitting on a table with her friends. They seem to be chatting, but her friends are already walking away. Great timing for me. It’s not like I’m shy to talk to her friends, I’m just not interested. Sunny is friends with almost everyone, and I don’t think just because I’m her best friend, I should be friends with all of hers. Anyways, friendships aside, I find her in the perfect spot. I rush to her, and feeling very optimistic about my plan, I sit next to her, catching her off guard once again.

—Hey, Sunny!—

—Woah! Where did you come from??—

—Lo siento, no hablo inglés (Sorry, I don’t speak english)—

—Ah, so you went to Spanish class? I bet it was fun…—

—Yep, mucho divertido (a lot fun). I think that’s how you say it, I don’t know, but it was really chill—

—Yea, but you probably won’t learn much spanish from that, you just want to see Miss Valeria

Sunny’s sense of humor is both discouraging and very uplifting. She always jokingly says I will fail at something, mainly when it comes to school. She is usually very supportive about everything I do, so when she does those kinds of jokes, I can’t help but crack up. We share a quick laugh, but I won’t let her distract me much, because I need to tell her something urgently before this recess ends.

—But there’s no time to talk about my classes. I need your help for something else…—

—Oh really? Well, what else would you need my help for?—

It’s a bit embarrassing to ask for her help in this situation. I’ve never used Sunny as a means to make new friends, even though I feel like she wanted me to make new friends thanks to her. It just never felt right. But seeing as she is just as playful as ever, and she sounds very curious to know how she could be helpful, I think I won’t have much problem convincing her to introduce me to new people. But because I don’t want to straight up order her to do that, I try to give her some context, mainly so she doesn’t question it too much.

—Well, it has to do more about my current social situation…

—I see… Does that have to do with the girl you said you talked to earlier?—

—Errr, kind of… I mean, yea, it has something to do with that…—

—Alright, so are going to tell me who it is or I have to guess?—

Every time I bring up a girl, just mentioning a female, Sunny instantly turns curious and more playful than usual. She likes to play around the idea of me dating girls, or just talking to some. Since it’s so rare for me to do so, I get why she gets so excited when I mention a girl. But still, that doesn’t make it less embarrassing. Still, I find it a bit funny to see her so interested so quickly. And knowing that I have her full attention, I decide to just be honest and not waste time, so I can get to the point directly, and hopefully get her to help me.

—Yea, umm… I talked to Jocelyn this morning, right before the first class started—

—Wait, really? Jocelyn? The girl that rejected you??—

Oh right, something I didn’t mention is that Sunny knows about all of my romantic failures, pretty much all of my failures in general. She is my one true friend, so of course I tell her about them. But what I didn’t expect when telling her about how I got rejected by another popular student was Sunny’s reaction. For some reason, she got furious when she heard someone refused to go out with me. She turned almost as overprotective as my mother, and it was probably the most hilarious thing she has done. I get to see a bit more of that unreasonable anger again. But this time, Sunny just looks slightly upset at me mentioning Jocelyn. I don’t think much about it and quickly explain what happened, so Sunny doesn’t get a chance to talk bad about the one girl that rejected me last year.

—Yea, we just found each other after you left and we talked a bit…—

—You mean talk, or…—

—Of course, just a normal conversation. It was rather short, but I did say a few things to her to encourage her—

—Encourage her? What do you mean? What did you want her to do?—

—Don’t be so suspicious. I know what you are thinking… But I just encouraged her to go to class, you know how shy she can be…—

—Riiiiight… What an odd thing to say…—

Sunny is already very skeptical about my story. It’s not because I don’t sound convincing, but it’s because she probably thinks I did more than just talk to Jocelyn. I can’t believe her sometimes, but I think she is just joking, so I don’t stress about it. Instead, I continue to explain myself further, and in doing so, I’m coming closer to revealing what I need her to help me with. She does seem a bit impatient, which is why I must tell her soon.

—I mean, yea, it was a bit weird to tell her that. But I wanted to motivate her to be herself, you know, to not think about the other people’s opinion, to feel confident about herself, all of that stuff…—

—Aww, that’s very sweet of you…—

—Is it? I mean, yea… But it also motivated me too, and that’s why I wanted to ask you something…—

Sunny smiles at me with admiration, or that’s what it seems, like she is very proud of me at this moment. I think I’ve done a good deed, and I'm certainly more proud of myself to see her reaction. But I have a feeling that she will be a bit disappointed when I ask her to help me meet new people. I don’t know why, but the look on her face tells me she has high hopes for me, or she might be excited for whatever I say next. I know she is probably not expecting me to ask for help to meet people, but I hope it doesn’t make her any less proud or excited…

What do I need Sunny to help me with?
