Take the left passage

You shrug and head down the left-hand corridor. The floor is made of rough stones, the walls carved out of the living rock. You must be underground, but you have no idea how deep or if this passage will lead you out. The evil sorcerer said you'll be free if you can get out, but can you really trust him? He's evil.

After a few twisting corners, you start to hear an echoing tap tap tap coming from somewhere up ahead. Moving slow and quietly, you creep through the corridor, and with every step, the noise gets louder, closer. Tap tap tap. You come to a sharp bend and stop, holding your breath as you peer around the corner. A silver ghost stands in the middle of the passage, milky-white eyes staring through you as it waves a long stick just above the floor, a bushy tail swaying behind it and a pair of pointed ears on top of its head.

You jerk back, heart pounding. How are supposed to get past a ghost? On the other hand, can a ghost really do anything to you? And what's with the ears and tail? Is this the spirit of the beastman carved above the door? You hear more of that strange tap tap tapping and chance another look around the corner.

It's not a ghost, but a silver fox, as tall as a human, standing on its hind legs like a human, but with all the features of an animal, down to the furry white globes hanging beneath his fur-covered sheath. He paces slowly from one side of the corridor to the other, tapping the tip of his stick on the floor as he swings it back and forth, almost like--

You gasp. He's blind. His head snaps toward the sound, his tall, triangular ears swiveling as he listens, his cloudy-white eyes passing over you without seeing.

"Is someone there?" he asks, his voice soft and mellow. He takes a step toward you, his stick tapping the floor, but you hold perfectly still, hardly even daring to breathe. After a moment, he turns away and goes back to his pacing.

If you time it right, you could probably sneak past him. Then again, he's blind. You could just run up, knock him over, and keep going. You suppose you could try talking to him, too. You are curious about what he's doing down here, and maybe he knows something about the 'hordes of horny monsters' lurking in this dungeon.
