Chapter 28 by elmerstories elmerstories

What do you do?

Take the dive as you start to hear some voices in the other path.

A high pitch hiss is heard from the other side. Both you and Nathraena pale as you realize that the siren is not joking around.

"I hear sssomething. Quickly!"

You ears pick up the slithering noises of the lighted path next to you. You have been in more than enough caves to know how far they are based on the echoes. Depending how fast the lizards are, you probably have less than a minute. Any noise they hear could be assumed to be the siren, so there is some leeway but you cannot waste any more time making your decision. That was clear.

So without any words, you bite your tongue and push forward, causing the drow to widen her eyes at you incredulously. You might be falling into a trap, but you're not going to go in foolishly without a weapon. With your dagger at your side, you take the dive as quietly as you can.

The water is surprisingly warm and although you have some concerns of how truly "pure" the water is, you cannot dwell on it. After all, you've been in worse.

Now closer to the siren, you raise your dagger in front of her and slowly start to back away behind the altar so that you are out of sight from any incoming lizards.

The siren doesn't try to challenge you and raises her hands up to show that she means no harm. Then, she places a finger to her lips and motions to dive further down.

Her motions make it seem that she truly wants to help, but you can't trust her given the limited time you have to hide. Not lowering your guard, you motion with your hands to the drow who is still on the edge from the chamber, wondering if you were okay.

Seeing that there doesn't appear to be any immediate danger aside from the siren who is keeping her distance, the drow bites her lips and steadily enters the chamber, swimming as silently as she can towards the altar. You make room as she tugs close to you and also brings up her weapons toward the girl who remains composed.

As both of you hide behind the altar while not taking your eyes off of the siren for a moment, you come to wonder how Djarrus is going to hide. Although you don't dare to dive down as the siren suggests, Djarrus has **** due to how large he is.

Lowering his body, you plan on attacking the siren if she makes any movements towards the minotaur. Sensing your aggression, Nathraena silently holds you back, not wanting to even risk saving the minotaur if the siren decides to show her true colors.

Speaking of which, the minotaur didn't even try to attack when you passed by him to get to the altar. He truly is unbound, but is it due to the siren or this mysterious water? Maybe they are one and the same?

You store those questions for later as you and Nathraena remain focused on the blue-haired girl in the connected chamber. Although she can't clearly communicate with you, she seems to grow frustrated that you aren't heeding her suggestion to dive down.

Like hell are you going to stop watching her! You and Nathraena can both hold yourself and be silent much better than the average human, so you aren't going to let your guard down.

Finally, you hear footsteps and a hissing noise that echoes in your area. The water begins to vibrate as heavy footsteps begin to decline down the stairs of the other path.

Since Nathraena is watching the siren carefully, you look up as much as you can behind the altar without exposing yourself to see if the minotaur has truly declined. You couldn't find his towering presence so you can only hope that if he did dive down, he can hold his breath for long.

Seeing how you or the drow weren't going to heed her silent advice, she sighs and presents a warm smile to two reptilians that approach her chamber. You can't see the lizards, but you know based on a number of vibrations they cause that they are big.

Are you able to remain hidden?
