Chapter 13 by Wing
What does he do?
Take the Mace then Head Out
Seth looked over the mace and sword undecided for a long moment, before he nodded to the mace.
Out of the three it would be the easiest to use. Swords and axes take a good degree of skill to get the blade to bite deeply. A mace was basically just a metal club. See target. Swig at target. Mace smash.
Probably not only the best bet, but his only bet.
With that in mind, he reached out and carefully took the mace off of the wall. It was almost wrenched from his grasp by the sheer weight of it. There was no way he was going to be able to handle this in combat, not with this amount of weight and only one free hand, the other being needed to carry the dagger. No. He'd have to use both and without anything to carry the dagger in, he'd have to resort to something insane, like carrying it in his teeth, and there was no way he was putting a weapon with a life stealing enchantment in his mouth!
With a sigh he grunted and managed to remount the mace to the wall. That left him with plan B, the sword. Carefully he lifted it from the wall and found it to be much lighter. It was still too heavy for him to really use with one hand for any length of time, but at least it wasn't like carrying a spiky 10lb weight on a 3 1/2 foot pole.
Instead it was about half the weight and much more balanced. While he didn't know shit about swinging a sword, at least it had a sharp tip to stab with, which was better than nothing.
Hefting the blade onto his shoulder, he held the dimly glowing dagger out like a torch and began his trek out.
The tunnel it seemed was actually rather long, but mostly featureless. He kept a close eye out but noticed no traps, and even better, didn't step on any.
Eventually he reached a dead end and smiled. He had no doubt that this was the exit he just had to find the stone that would lead to his exodus. Gently placing the sword down, it took another couple minutes to find the right rock to push to open the stone wall. When he did his nose detected the sweatiest scent he had smelt in years.
Fresh running water.
The door had opened into a cavern next to the running waters of an underground river. Even better, it was illuminated by a dim, glowing moss that covered the far wall, blanketing the ground in a dull green glow.
In-front of him there was a path about two yards long next to the river, which was about four yards wide.
Behind him he could see the stone wall, and more importantly, the depressed spot in the natural stone wall that was the hidden button.
Spying a stone not far down the wall that was covered in the moss, he wedged his dagger into the rock and popped it loose. He then pushed the button, closing the door, and laid the stone in front of it against the wall, just in case someone should stumble across the cave while he was away.
With the door marked, all he needed to do was decide on a path.
Which Path does he take?
