Chapter 3 by DamianFreeUseLover669 DamianFreeUseLover669

In this world...

THE BRITISH EMPIRE LIVES! (The 1997 Hong Kong War)

BACKGROUND

After the Tiananmen Square Massacre of 1989, the British government began to have second thoughts about returning the city of Hong Kong to China. A city that at that point had been in their possession for 148 years and ever since loosing India in 1947 had become the crown jewel of their declining empire.

This was a feeling shared by most of the citizens of Hong Kong who from 1989-95 held a series of protests and even riots in order to convince Britain not to go through with handing them back to the CCP on the agreed upon date of July 1, 1997.

Despite the protests, the British felt like there was nothing they could do cause going back on the treaty would mean war; recent victory over Argentina in the 1982 Falkland War aside.

Finally, on November 18, 1996, Britain announced that on December 30th, it would hold a referendum and let the people of Hong Kong decide on who they wanted to belong to

  • China

or

  • Britain

Independence wasn't an option cause that would just mean going back to China, just with extra steps.

To the surprise of no one, the CCP was outraged by this and brought the issue to the United Nations saying it was a violation of the treaty. However, the U.N. sided with Britain because since the deadline hadn't come yet, that meant that Britain could do what it pleased.

In the weeks leading up to the referendum, Britain and China unleashed a propaganda campaign, producing a series of very convincing ads (which were highly sexual in nature considering the kind of world this is) on why the island should choose them. China offered a B.S. "one country, two systems till 2047" policy promise and that the 1989 "incident" never happened. But even if it did happen, they would never do anything like that to them.

However, as the weeks got closer, the CCP got even more ****, essentially threatening to execute the mainland relatives of those who lived on the island. They even went as far as finding and putting some of them on TV and **** them to read from obvious scripts with an offscreen gun pointed at their heads, pleading with their relatives and fellow Chinese to come home because, "Communist China good, imperialist round-eye Britain bad!"

Did This Work?
