THE BLACK DRAGON SOCIETY

The Black Dragon Society is basically Vixen's answer to both DC's League of Assassins and Marvel's The Hand.

Founded by the immortal & enigmatic master, Shirogane, their influence extends far beyond Japan. They are known for their ruthlessness and efficiency, leaving no trace of their presence except for the whispers of fear that follow in their wake.

The Society was declared illegal by Emperor Meiji sometime during the 1870s after they tried & failed to assassinate him multiple times cause they disagreed with his Western reforms.

(That's what happens when you try to kill a arahitogami who is a descendant of the sun goddess Amaterasu!)

That wouldn't last for long though as they were reconstituted in the mid-late 1920s by Emperor Hirohito who believed they would be useful in helping Japan achieve its imperial ambitions. It was here that they became not just mystical ninjas, but a "secret" paramilitary, ultra-nationalist right-wing group of mystical ninjas bent on world domination!

Throughout the 30s and WWII, the B.D.S. would continue to be a sanctioned network for espionage, sabotage and assassination; fighting various Golden Age heroes in the name of the Emperor before being made illegal by him as well as the new Japanese constitution after the U.S. dropped two suns on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. They were once again forced into the shadows where they've remained ever since.

Despite being a cult of Japanese supremacists, the Dragons have no issue with recruiting, kidnapping and brainwashing foreign-born children and turning them into ruthless, unfeeling killing machines who's disloyalty is punishable by death via ritual sacrifice to their dragon god!

One of those kidnapped children being https://chyoa.com/chapter/MAXINE-WYLDE.1789095, who for a time was of one the Society's greatest success stories until she briefly grew a conscience during one of her assignments and they decided to make an example out of her!

That didn't end up happening however, cause during the middle of the ritual their underground temple was raided by S.A.N.T.A. agents. This disruption is the cause for why Maxine has the power of Infinite Resurrection as well as her connection to the Backrooms.
