Chapter 24

Deal?
Sylas visits the library after breakfast
With Vayne finishing her monologue, how much she was pissed off already, it was good to actually see her smile after that.
Sylas always was very reserved, during vacation. He knew even if he had the ability, to steal and copy certain spells and powers from each one here, he would be stupid to do so. Vayne would see this as an act of war and then he probably ended up like Kayn, Sett or Evelynn. Those three all had looked rather bad-tempered during her speech and Sylas assumed they had been hit by Vayne’s summoner-spell-shooting weapon.
Sylas sat alone on one of the tables, just listening to the sounds around them and watching the conversation, while he ate. Not that Sylas didn’t like a good conversation himself or generally someone he enjoyed spending time with, but he doesn’t want to impose himself on somebody. He glared towards Lux, probably the only Demacian, who saw more in him than a traitor. Even if Garen, Jarvan and all those other swordsmen and women of this faction, always treated him with respect, there was still a bit too much awkwardness between them.
Only Lux, who sat there with Kai’sa, Ahri and Neeko always had been nice to him and talking with her was a lot more wholesome than with arrogant Fiora, boasting Garen or overly righteous Kayle. Right now, Lux also didn’t seem very happy, Sylas noticed, as she looked like she was thinking about something.
Or someone? During vacation you couldn’t be sure.
Sylas finished his meal and went then outside the dining room. He arrived last evening and had spent most of the time to move all his stuff there and didn’t have explored the mansion yet.
So, he might figure it would be nice to visit the library, which was very on the opposite side of the dining room, only corridor away. He knew this mansion had an extended and very old collection of books, along with the more current releases on the market and maybe he found something interesting.
As he opened the door to the library, Sylas was greeted by the smell only a hundred of bookshelf’s could provide: old, a bit musty and dusty and the significant smell of parchment mixed with each other. Light only came through the lamps on desks and near big wing chairs that stood next to the shelfs and gave the whole library a very gloomy, yet relaxing ambient.
The library was organized in different thematic blocks: above the shelfs each was a sign with inscriptions like: ‘History’, ‘Fantasy’, ‘Poesy’ or ‘Romance’.
As expected, Sylas wasn’t alone. Near the section with the sign ‘Music’ Karthus levitated an inch over the floor, absorbed in a book ‘How to growl and shout – simple to advanced. Techniques and Songs included’. Ryze was sitting on a desk, which was overflowing with parchment, muttering unintelligible, reading with a frown on his face. Annie stood near the ‘Teen’-section and was chattering lively with Nunu, pointing up to the shelfs.
Sylas was not specifically searching for something, so he just went through the library, grabbing a book here and there, reading the cover or blurb. He just went around the corner of the romance section (which he almost entirely skipped and just looked at some spines of books) as he accidentally bumped into someone.
“Sorry,” he muttered and stepped back noticing the wings. “Didn’t saw you, Morgana.”
Morgana, the pale women with black, feathery wings, which grew out of her spine and waist, was a slim, yet very curvy woman in her dark robes. Her dark purple hair, where two pointy ears stuck out, matched with the lipstick and the running make-up, which complimented her shining violet eyes. She had a book in her hands and looked at Sylas with raised eyebrows.
“You have eyes, do you?” she asked and shook her head distracted.
“Sorry,” Sylas repeated. “I can’t know, you’re standing right here in the corner of the…” he looked up to read the sign and frowned. “’Erotic’-section? Oh wow.”
Morgana raised her eyebrows even more. “Got a problem with that?” she asked and faced him, clapping the book she read shut.
“No,” Sylas said. “Just wondering.”
“About what?”
“The fact you’re interested in this kind of literature,” Sylas said shrugging. “An ascended being like you…”
“Maybe this ascended being also has a very human nature,” Morgana said and crossed her arms. “And also, I am not a hypocritical prude like my sister,” she added with a snort. “She wouldn’t even come here in the first place and just fly out for battle.”
“Are you trying to prove something here, Morgana?” Sylas asked amused. “What did Kayle do to you?”
He knew her blond-haired twin-sister was always annoying Morgana and Sylas couldn’t begrudge her for that. Kayle was insufferable righteous and the justice, she always preached was very blindsided. If they weren’t on vacation Sylas was in Kayle’s eyes a troublemaker, a destroyer of peace and a manipulative thief. She probably would never ask, why he did, what he did.
Morgana would listen though. She was not fast in her judgement and screaming for lynch law the moment someone did something wrong. She asked for the reasons and would only then pronounce a decision. Sylas liked that much more – and he always liked dark-haired women as well, so probably was there another thing, Morgana was exceeding Kayle in that regard.
“My sister did nothing and I am not proving anything,” Morgana answered bored. “I am just annoyed by the fact, she is here, flying around like a judge again and plays the know-it-all or criticize everything she doesn’t like.”
“Like what?” Sylas asked.
Morgana rolled her eyes and then started to speak in a bossy, boasting tone, imitating Kayle: “'First day here and Vayne had to use this glove already. I should speak with her, make sure, she gets all the help she needs to stop this nonsense. As you know sister, I cannot stand injustice'. Oh, and she already slut-shamed a few champions. 'No wonder Katarina gets that much attention of Garen and Talon, this ass looks like it wanted to explode out of these shorts. MF in this top, it literally screams ‘fuck me'…”
“Well…she is kind of right with that,” Sylas smiled smugly, thinking about Miss Fortune in that top. “It really does.”
“Yeah, I know, but that’s not the point,” Morgana said annoyed. “She is insufferable. I hope she stops doing that and just focuses on the concert or whatever.”
“We have that in common, Morg,” Sylas nodded. “I don’t like this attitude as well. She always looks at me, like I belong into a prison.”
“Whatever,” Morgana sighed and rolled her eyes. “Thanks to her disinterest in anything resembling intellectuality, she won’t bother me here.”
“Well sorry, I bothered you,” Sylas said excusing.
“Bumping into me doesn’t bother me, it rather had been distracting from the lecture,” Morgana and smiled at him for the first time they started to speak.
“By the way…” Sylas said and looked at the cover of the book, Morgana had in her hands for the first time. “Is that…?”
It was. Morgana held a very new looking edition of ’50 shades of Grey’ in her hands. Sylas frowned at her.
“Seriously, Morg?”
“What?” she asked kindly, but her wings flapped behind her back, like she made herself ready for combat.
“That book?” Sylas asked bemused. “Of all the erotic literature here, you chose that book to read?”
“Yes, why not?” Morgana said. “Are you trying to judge me now too?”
“Fine, if you want to read this bullshit, I am not stopping you,” Sylas snorted amused. “But talking about intellectuality and then choose to read this crap, is just a bit hypocritical.”
Morgana didn’t answer, she just stared at Sylas with her violet eyes. Then she said: “Maybe you need to read crap too, to get the bigger picture. You have to dive through shit, to get to find gold sometimes.”
“Yes, but the gold you find will still be full of shit anyways,” Sylas replied. “For real Morgana: What do you find exciting about that book? Its plot is bad, the relationship is more toxic than anything Cassiopeia would spit at you, the main-character is just as flat and terrible like the guy she is hot for, it glorifies domestic **** and on top of that the unique selling point – the sex-scenes – are boring.”
“You seem a lot to know about that book, Sylas,” Morgana said, the corners of her mouth twitching.
“Maybe I’ve had women, who talked about the book,” Sylas said slyly. “Because apparently, I was far more inventive and skilled with chaining someone to the bed.” He shook his wrists, where the rest of his broken chains still dangled to the floor.
“I see,” Morgana’s face was completely expressionless. “I guess, you got a lot more positive feedback than this book?”
“I did,” Sylas replied. “And if you ask me, this book didn’t deserve the reputation it got. I mean it’s a fanfiction of Twilight. I’ve read far more better fanfictions in my life that didn’t make it into the mainstream, and I am still wondering how ’50 shades’ managed to do that at all.”
Morgana smiled. Then she put the book into the shelf again and turned to Sylas. “So, you got any suggestions?” Morgana asked coyly and waved her hand to the shelf full of erotic literature.
“I am not an expert in that regard,” Sylas said, with an amused frown. Was she hitting on him? “I am more a man of action, instead of theory-reading.”
“Are you, huh?” Morgana said. “Again something, we have in common, it seems.”
“Are you woman of action?” Sylas asked.
“Just because I am not charging mindlessly into battle, like my sister, doesn’t mean I am passive,” Morgana said and smiled again.
“I never noticed you were into men?” Sylas asked.
“And how did you come to this conclusion?” Morgana asked, raising her eyebrows.
“You never talked much with us…”
“With that logic, I should be suspicious about your alleged experience with women too,” Morgana pointed out. “You’re just as a lone wolf as me.”
“Something else, we have in common,” Sylas grinned. “But I assure you, I am not very hard to convince.”
“Is that so?” Morgana asked casually.
“All I need is a sign,” Sylas said with a wink.
Morgana looked at him thoughtfully. Then she made a motion with her hand and something purple burst out of her hand. Sylas couldn’t react in time and felt like an elephant had trampled against him, but the weight didn’t knock him up. Dark purple chains held his whole body in place, so he couldn’t run away.
“Very funny,” Sylas hissed, straining against the dark binding.
“Consider this a sign, Sylas,” Morgana said sweetly as she passed him.
Sylas hesitated a second. Then he concentrated and as the binding-spell around him broke, he swung his right arm in a whipping motion. The chain around his arm glowed in the same dark, purple as it extended magically. Morgana winced as the chain wrapped around her waist and spun around.
Sylas had the chain in his fist, now also enhanced by Morgana and her power to bind people around her. He grinned at her.
“Not so fast, Morgana,” he said, as she grabbed the chain around her waist and tried to free herself. “You are not binding me here without consequences.”
“You know, you’re in trouble if I talk to Vayne about this?” Morgana said daringly, yet she also had a smile on her face. Her violet eyes seem to glow in the gloomy darkness of the library even more. “You’re not allowed to steal powers from us during vacation.”
“The same goes for randomly rooting people, to make a point,” Sylas replied.
“To give a sign,” Morgana said coyly. “Besides you are the one holding me still right now.”
“And another thing we have in common, it seems,” Sylas said.
“Wow, it’s like we’re made for each other,“ Morgana cooed, with obvious sarcasm. “But you forgot something.”
Sylas chains started to tremble around him and before he could loosen the control around Morgana’s waist, she had taken advantage of his carelessness. More chains bound themselves around Sylas arms and wrapped around his body like snakes.
“This power you have, is always just borrowed from us,” Morgana said triumphantly as she freed herself from the chain around her waist and held it in her hands.
“And now you used your powers on me,” Sylas said calmly. “And your argument with Vayne doesn’t count anymore.”
“Pff.” Morgana snorted and rolled her eyes. “As if I was running to her, because of that. I am not my sister.”
“No,” Sylas said and looked down to her. “You are everything she isn’t.”
“Which is?” Morgana was now coming closer to Sylas. Her voice was much softer now.
“Thoughtful. Smart. Hot. Naughty.” Sylas counted. “Misunderstood, like me. Disgraced, like me. Rather alone, than with others - like me. You’re a bad girl, through and through. But if we want, we both can be very appreciative.”
Morgana grinned. The chains around Sylas disappeared entirely and so fast, he almost stumbled by the sudden loss of weight around him.
He and Morgana both looked at each other and because of the difference in height and how close Morgana stood in front of him, he got a pretty good view into her cleavage as well. She didn’t talk, but she noticed his gaze and her smile got a bit wider.
“I think, we both each other signs,” Sylas finally said. “So why don’t we take a walk and try to interpret them in my room?
Is there any room for interpretation?
