Chapter 9 by mjor144 mjor144

What's next?

Sustenance and Strike

They didn't talk at all during breakfast. Sally was still sleepy, not being used to waking up so early in the morning and her mouth was busy munching on pancakes that Andreas prepared.

He, on the other hand, just wanted to forget about yesterday's awkward encounter and today's awakening.

"So... When are we going?" The Lamia asked after they were done with food. She was wearing the same suit as yesterday.

"Uber should be arriving in a few minutes."

Andreas answered as he was leaving the room. A moment later he came back, wearing a blue football jersey with a certain logo. He sensed that the question was coming from her.

"It's Chelsea t-shirt. I don't have many things that will make me look... Presentable."

She looked at him. The jersey had short sleeves which exposed his arms that looked like they still remember work out times.

"Is that like a sports team?"

"Yes. A football team. People in this country call it soccer."

He gave a brief explanation and before she could ask another question, he added:

"Speaking of clothes. Do you have anything else, or is that your only outfit?"

He asked, seemingly interested.

"No, that's... That's all I have."

It looked like it was hard for her to admit this fact.

"Then after signing the papers we'll go to the store and get you some. Maybe they'll have something that will fit you."

She smiled, happy that he'd do that for her.

Ten minutes later Andreas got a notification that the driver arrived. He opened the gate remotely so the car could get a little closer.

"Let's go. You first, I need to close up."

She hurried through the doors. Andreas put in security code on the pad and then went out.

There were a fair fifty feet of cobblestone path between his doors and the road leading up to the gate. The plants around were growing wild, and he even saw one of his footballs in the bushes nearby.

When he approached the car, he saw that Sally is arguing with the driver.

"... sorry, but there is no way you are getting into this car. You won't fit."

The older guy with impressive, grey mustache and a beret on his head stood beside his ford with his arms crossed and didn't let Sally in. The car looked like it was big enough and with some creative thinking Sally should be able to get in without issues.

"Hey, chief, you ordered the Uber?"

He nodded.

"Well, I can take you, but not it. First of all, that tail ain't fitting in my car. And second, I ain't driving for monsters. They can get back to whatever hellhole they crawled out from."

The driver took out a cigarette and fired it up.

Sally looked pissed, but didn't want to overstep, or do anything illegal to that guy, so she waited for her sponsors reaction.

"Sir, you have thirty seconds to leave my driveway."

Andreas spoke peacefully, no hint of aggression or annoyance in his voice.

"What? And what about me getting paid? I drove to this shitty area for fifteen minutes! I ain't moving anywhere before I get my money!"

The driver stood his ground.

Well, not his. Technically he was already staying at Andreas's property.

"So you are refusing to leave and don't want to do your job?"

"No, I want to, but..."

He started, but Andreas wasn't listening.

"Sally, do you mind handing me that ball?"

"This one?" She pointed at the one stuck in the bushes.

"Yes."

She took it in hands and threw it to him. The driver watched carefully, not sure what was going on.

Andreas saw the familiar ball, it had four triangles on the white background. He recognized it as jabulani.

"Well, then say hello to the worst foot ball in existence."

"What?"

Andreas didn't respond verbally. Instead, he tossed a ball upwards and used a massive volley kick when it went down. The improvised missile flew with incredible speed towards the car and hit one of the side windows, completely breaking it. The glass shattered inside the car, with only several shards outside.

"Get out of my property."

Andreas said, his voice now could grind diamonds.

The driver hurried back into the car and disappeared in the next few moments.
