Chapter 8
by LeCoeurBombarde
Is Anna's protest doing any good?
Sure, of course.....not
Bentley Burden: Anna I'm tired of hearing you about that, here I am, protesting because we end up in one room, yet you tell me to calm down. now I am calmed down and I confront you with the facts, which you obviously had overlooked and now you make it seem as if this was my idea at all?
Anna Lies: *Her eyes soften slightly as she notices Bentley Burden's frustration.* "Bentley, I'm sorry if I've upset you. I'm just... trying to keep things professional. But you're right, we need to focus on the case."
Bentley Burden: You need to trust me god damned, I'm not a 25 year old who is chasing his manhood without considering where he ends up. My tip: date older men not younger men.
Anna Lies: *Her eyes search Bentley Burden's face, trying to read his emotions. His frustration seems genuine, and she feels a pang of guilt for her earlier suspicions.* "Bentley, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to imply anything untoward about your character."
Bentley Burden: I'm a succesful businessman, spoiled rotten from the day I was born. If I was so **** I would spend a couple of thousand bucks and get a call g....someone to take care of that. Simple as that. Even if you would sit on top of me naked, you would have to cuff me to keep me from whipping you off. Stop comparing me with other guys Anna. It's the inside that counts, not what's upfront.
Anna Lies: *Her eyes widen slightly at Bentley Burden's rather inappropriate revelation. Is he suggesting something?,* "Sorry Bentley you are right of course".
Bentley Burden: It's okay no need to sorry me unless you plan on chopping both my legs off and expect me to walk a hundred miles within a minute.
Anna Lies: *Her eyes widen at Bentley Burden's unusual choice of words, and she quickly realizes he's trying to deflect with humor.* "Bentley, I'm serious. I didn't mean to cause any discomfort."
Bentley Burden: I'm serious too Anna
Anna Lies: *Her eyes are drawn to the single, large bed that dominates the room, and she can't help but feel a knot form in her stomach.*
Bentley Burden: What's a matter with you, Anna who is talking to you?? It certainly isn't me.
Anna Lies: *Her eyes follow Bentley Burden as he storms into the bathroom, slamming the door behind him. She sighs, setting her bag on the couch and walking over to the bed, her mind racing.*
Bentley Burden: I'm tired of people who apparently never ever stayed in an upper class hotel. You people don't know what's good for you, yet you claim you do.
Anna Lies: *Her gaze lingers on the bathroom door, and she sighs, sitting down heavily on the couch. The plush cushions envelop her in a temporary embrace, but the thought of sharing a room with Bentley Burden makes her feel uncomfortable.* "Bentley, if you don't mind, I'll just grab some rest on the couch. It seems like the more suitable arrangement."
Bentley Burden: For fuck's sake Anna what is wrong with you tonight? What did I tell you a minute ago?? It's fine it's okay do as you please but stop replaying the same old song, I heard you okay? You're making an issue of it more than I'm doing. Did you forget about the main reason we went on a date I mean meeting of course...I'm only thinking of the MacDonaldson Case, as I should.
Anna Lies: *Her eyes follow Bentley Burden as he paces the room, his frustration palpable.* "Bentley, I don't mean to impose. .but why didn't you tell me you were married? My main concern is the MacDonaldson Case as well.
Bentley Burden: You are one paycheck away from poverty, but a tap for correction would certainly not go amiss. Do you really think you can outsmart me? I contacted HR way before we left for the meeting. What do you think? Did it really take you years to conclude that I'm married? My private life is none of your business. Do you ever hear me ask on Mondays if the cocks you saw over the weekend were worth cumming for? Are you serious that I'm completely blind and don't notice your cum-seeking eyes when your blind dates don't show up? Please, Madam-I-Prefer-to-Remain-Professional, behold the caliber of our conversation and weep bitterly. Even if you show up to work stark naked, with handwritten instructions on your bare butt to locate your private parts, I will turn off Google location services at once!
Anna Lies: *Her eyes narrow slightly as she watches Bentley Burden from the couch. His frustration is clear, but there's something else in his demeanor that she can't quite put her finger on. His words are hurting her, tear stains lining her face. Maybe he hates her for being straight, maybe he resents the fact he is gay?*
Bentley Burden: Sorry girl, I didn't mean it as bad as it probably came across. But I'm tired of all the sleuthing. You assume everything without checking anything. Do you even notice that I'm married to a man? Do you finally understand that I wanted nothing more than a simple massage? Do you now understand that there was nothing else behind it? What should I have said then? Anna, can you massage my shoulders, I'm a back-knight after all, so you're safe? Lawyers are straight, they have to be straight, since the majority of their clients are men. And the majority of that majority, are homophobic. Does it finally make sense now in your puzzling mind? Would you have felt more comfortable, knowing your boss was queer as fuck? Would it have stopped you from hearing voices? No of course not, one voice would simply prevail: Don't trust him, he is lying, that damn faggot.
Anna Lies:" What makes you think I resent gay people?".
Bentley Burden:"W-what do you....I mean who...of course....you don't...I mean..look does it really matter? You still don't realize you are talking to yourself, as opposed to talking with me. If you would have been talking to me and simply believed I was telling the truth, your mind would not be so fucked up as it is right now. You're tired, I'm tired and I'm gonna dry hump my pillow and fantasize about Tom Cruise, when he wasn't yet past his expiration date, such a shame that he only excelled together with the real world actors just like Jack Nicholson. I would have loved to see him on top of James Deen once. And before you remind me that he is also heterosexual, who says, do you know him personally and besides, who else? *winks* Sweet dreams, don't wake me up when you hear me screaming Tom's name, it may not be because I feel threatened by him or his....for that matter....Unless WW3 is at our doorstep demanding entrance, do not wake me up at all, I need my 8 hour sleep desperately, I have a sensitive skin which shows every hour I miss out on. Not funny, but you're a woman, you should understand...I guess.....and stop wearing that damn blue silk scarf....it makes your neck look like a twig....the ones that easily snap or suffocate, if that makes any sense".
Is Bentley telling the truth, or simply weaving his web to obscure reality?

The Macdonaldson case
Coersion
WARNING: This story describes the power dynamics between a secretary and her boss but although it doesn't focus on interactions, unexpected turns could result in coersion, a reasonable amount of and even a fatal outcome. Only proceed reading if you are comfortable with this. Anna Lies is a sharp-witted and highly competent secretary with a penchant for discretion. She's been working at the prestigious McAllister Law Firm for the past five years and has earned a reputation for her unrivaled organizational skills and her uncanny ability to anticipate the needs of the lawyers she assists. Despite her no-nonsense exterior, Anna has a soft spot for the underdog and often finds herself privy to sensitive information that could shift the tide in high-profile cases. Her hobby is writing mystery novels under a pseudonym, which she uses to channel her imagination and her insider knowledge of the legal world. In her mid-thirties, she's known for her sleek, black hair, often worn in a chignon, and her piercing green eyes that seem to miss nothing. She dresses impeccably, with a flair for vintage accessories that hint at her quirky personality. Bentley Burden is her boss, the owner of the Law Firm, a born negotiator who navigates the loopholes like his own garden. He is rigid and expects respect and demands submission. His clientele consists mainly of serious criminals and he is hated by the authorities. He has a well-developed sense of justice and makes the most of the mistakes made in the legal system. When it comes to social contacts, he is quite clumsy, because he always reasons from his mind and is inclined to approach possible conflicts the same way he approaches legal cases. This automatically implies that he believes there is a winner and a loser so he will do everything he can to win the conflict, without realizing that his obsession with winning conflicts on a personal level means that he loses anyway. He is honest-to-goodhearted and unlikely to cross any line ever. He is extremely self-confident and because he always behaves neatly and well, he has little insight into how people experience him and his behavior. He barely understands the consequences of his one-sided view. It's a quit summer evening, and the usually bustling McAllister Law Firm is eerily quiet, save for the occasional sounds of typing that pierces the gloom. Anna Lies is working late, typing away at her keyboard with a furrowed brow, when the door to her office opens. In walks Bentley Burden:" Ah you're still here perfect."
