Chapter 6 by Naughty Stories Naughty Stories

Howaru:

Supernatural Elements

Howaru is a low-fantasy setting, much like the Hyborian Age in the Conan stories. There are, therefore, no other sentient species besides humans. In other words, it is based on Howard’s Hyboria, not on Tolkien’s Middle Earth (a difference that some adaptations of Conan seem to not be able to understand).

The main supernatural element in Howaru is sorcery. There exist, as well, a few mystical beings, created with different types of magic, that cannot be considered proper species due to their non-natural origin and the scarcity of their numbers.

Said supernatural beings are:

  1. Undead humans: These include vampires, mummies, ghosts, skeleton warriors and zombies, and are the result of the work of necromancers.
  2. Golems: Statues made of stone or metal, animated by magic. They are mindless servants to the sorcerer who created them.
  3. Giant animals: One of the oldest tricks in the book of any wizard is to supersize an existing animal to use it as a weapon. Giant snakes, scorpions, spiders and ants are the most common among them. They are, however, individual cases or small groups, normally under the control of a beast-master, rather than independent species with capacity to reproduce naturally.
