Suggest picking someone at random.

“Hold on,” you interject. The two girls look to you. “In order to prove this potion is legit, you should pick someone at random so you know they’re not in on some sort of trick.”

“You know it’s not a trick,” Lynn remarks.

“Because you two are in on it?” Tammy alleges with a smirk.

“It’s not a trick, it’s magic,” Lynn says, indignantly. “Go on and pick anyone at random and it’ll work on them!”

“How about we do it at lunch? Just slip it into someone’s drink and see what happens?”

Lynn rubs her chin, “I don’t see a problem with that…”

“Until lunch then,” Tammy smiles.

With the idea to proceed at lunch, things settle back down to a sense of normalcy. You finish your experiments without incident and the next few periods go by as any typical class lesson would. Finally the bell rings to announce lunch period.

Your last class was not with Lynn, but as soon as the bell goes, you see in your mind yourself walking alongside Lynn. In a flash the image becomes reality and you nearly trip over mid-stride.

“It is time for the big experiment!” Lynn declares, rubbing her hands together with anticipation.

“Is it really that big a deal to prove yourself right?” you ask your Mistress.

“It is,” Lynn states, resolutely. “If I don’t, how will people know I’m right?”

“It’s not good enough that YOU know?”

“What’s the point in knowing if no one else does?” Lynn shrugs, “It’s like being the best artist in the world and no one seeing your work! You might as well not exist!”

You quietly nod to that reasoning, not interested in delving into a philosophical debate. Tammy meets up with the two of you as you line up for the cafeteria.

“So… how are we going to do this?” she asks in a low tone as she scans the room.

Lynn pulls out a beaker filled with the love potion. She looks around and says, “I’ll just find an open drink and pour this inside and we’ll watch for whoever drinks it.

“That seems fair enough,” Tammy agrees, then asks, “How will it work?”

“You drink it and fall in love with the next person you see…” Lynn says plainly as she continues to scan like a hawk. “Right there…” Like a secret agent, Lynn walks casually out of line and over to one of the cafeteria tables. A group of girls are seated there, with one girl having a canned soft drink. Lynn gains their attention simply by being Lynn. The conversation at the table stops as they all turn to the most popular girl in school gracing them with her presence. “Hey! I just had to come over and say I love those earrings!” Lynn tells the girl with the drink.

The girl smiles, looks down and adjusts her glasses as she replies, “Uh.. thanks…” She pulls at long brown hair nervously as Lynn reaches out to inspect the earring.

“Where did you get it?” Lynn asks, meanwhile, her other hand pulls away the drink can.

“My mom gave it to me…” the girl answers.

“Wow! Your mom has great taste in jewelry!” Lynn fawns. Out of view, she uncorks her potion and expertly finds the lip of the can and fills it up. She pockets the test tube and slides the can back in place. “Well, I’ll let you gals get back to your lunch!” She straightens up and walks back to you and Tammy. She has a wry grin on her face when she tells the two of you, “Now all we have to do is watch and wait!”

The three of you keep eyes on the shy brunette as you pick out and purchase your meals. You find a table nearby to the group and keep surveillance on them as you eat. Lynn sits with her back to the group to avoid looking suspicious while you and Tammy steal quick glances to see if the target takes a sip from the spiked can. To your frustrations she’s not much of a drinker. Finally, as lunch is almost over and everyone is getting up to leave, the girl picks up her can and takes one last sip out of it. She’s startled from the taste, then starts to look around.
