Does Sue Storm realize that she is in a simulation?
Sue Storm Realizes Something Is Wrong
It wasn't a glitch. The simulation was perfect. The kind of normal dinner that Sue had always wanted.
That was the problem.
Sue Storm's life as a heroine, a wife, a mother, was not perfect.
She noticed that Valeria did not show off a new fork-based invention by the end of dinner.
Johnny Storm did not smell like charcoal.
Ben Grimm didn't leave any sand behind on his reinforced adamantium chair.
Sue excused herself and headed to the bathroom. She turned her clothes invisible and pulled open her labia, looking for the little scar where she'd ripped her urethra giving birth the second time.
It was there. Right where she'd left it. But when she touched it, with the smallest finger of her left hand, a little pee didn't come out.
Sue put her leg back down. Took a deep breath and looked at her reflection in the mirror.
The Invisible Woman had been through this before. Trapped in some kind of simulated environment. They had done a good job. Too good. Practically perfect. That meant they had to be drawing from her own memories to fill in the gaps. Making her see what she expected to see. But it couldn't replicate things that were outside the simulation parameters, and nobody had coded for involuntary moments of incontinence.
There were ways to break out of such simulations. Tax the computer server to its utmost. Break it until it glitched. Or she could reach outside the simulation with her powers. That was more difficult, more dangerous. Yet it had the advantage that nobody expected it. They were simulating her powers in here, they didn't understand that Sue could still use them for real.
She took a deep breath and tried to decide which way to go.
A knock on the bathroom door.
"Darling? Are you all right?" Reed's voice. All love and concern. She gave a bitter smile.
"Fine, dear," she lied. "Just a little embarrassed at being caught naked earlier."
"You don't have to be," he said. "Really, we're all born naked..."
