Sue Storm Can't Stop Thinking About Karla

"What if she has brain cancer?" Sue Storm asked.

It was a quiet dinner. Ben, Alicia, Johnny, and the kids had gone out to a baseball game and hotdogs. So it was just Sue and Reed; and Reed even took the night off from studying the mysteries of the cosmos to bake some salmon and asparagus, and crack open a nice bottle of wine that the Inhuman Royal Family had given them from the Blue Area of the Moon that tasted like what elderberries wanted to be when they grew up.

"Darling, you can't **** her to go to a doctor," Reed Richards said, in that terrible rational way he had. "She's a grown woman, she has enough money to go see a doctor—"

"But the nosebleeds! She has them so often," Sue said. "I'm worried about her."

Reed wiped his mouth with a napkin. His eyes got that far-off look in them.

"It would be a violation of her personal data," he said. "But the teleporter sensors we use do track every molecule in a body. Such information could be parsed into an in-depth medical diagnostic. You'd have to get her to actually step on a teleport pad."

"What if I hid it under her chair?" Sue said. "If I kept it invisible, she wouldn't see it, wouldn't feel it...it's perfect!"

Reed swirled the strange blue wine in the glass.

"We'll have to be very careful. You know how I get with secrets," Reed said.

"I know, darling," Sue reached under the table to grab his knee. "But this isn't like your Illuminati thing. If she's really got a tumor, she needs to know. And she can hate me afterward."

"I hope you're right," Reed said, stretching an arm out to hug her. Sue managed to repress the little creep of her flesh. She would get under the table and blow her husband right now if it meant she could help Karla.

For some reason, she couldn't keep the other woman off her mind.
