Sue Storm Breaks Into Moonstone's Apartment

What secrets can you hide from the Invisible Woman?

It was child's play to get Dr. Karla Stone's home address using S.H.I.E.L.D.'s databases. No one would even question why Sue Storm was checking out her psychiatrist's background. That was just good security. Nick Fury and Maria Hill would approve.

Unseen, Sue Storm surveyed the apartment from outside. It was a fifth-floor apartment a few blocks from her workplace. Utterly unremarkable from the outside. Yet Sue had no doubt there were a few surprises in store. She planted a few microcameras fixed on the door and outside window, then left. A virtual stakeout.

Sue wanted Moonstone out of the apartment when she turned it over. That meant waiting. "Dr. Stone" had no set schedule; she didn't go into her office every day. A part of Sue wanted to follow her, see where she went, but right now she just waited for Moonstone to be dressed up, to lock her door behind her.

That was interesting. Sue played back the camera. The lock of the door didn't look unusual, but the door frame was thick, metal, and bristled with electronics. Definitely something there.

So Sue didn't go through the front door. She rose on an invisible column to the balcony of Moonstone's apartment. At a glance, she made the frame invisible, saw the too-complex locking mechanism. Turned the bolt from the inside with an invisible hand, slid it open...and walked into someone else's space.

She walked on an invisible platform so as not to touch the ground. Her eyes scanned a bedroom that was...a little too neat. Like a set designer had built it. There were no photos of Dr. Stone or her family. The bed was unmade, and there was the smell of her perfume that clung to the sheets and pillow...but as Sue swiftly moved through the apartment, she noticed there was nothing else personal. No little knicknacks, no photo albums, no memories of past adventures. Not even any books.

The kitchen, in particular, looked unused. Karla didn't cook, it seemed.

Karla Sofen, a.k.a. Karla Stone, might sleep here, but she didn't live here.

There was a laptop. Sue plugged in a S.H.I.E.L.D.-issue USB drive, which would copy the contents and install government-issued spyware. She exerted herself a little more and began turning walls invisible...and there, in a hidden space behind the closet, Sue found the costumes. Her old costumes, some athletic bras modified with kevlar, a ray pistol of some description. Confirmation of what Sue already knew.

Almost absently, Sue planted a few microcameras in the bedroom and bathroom. She wasn't sure whether she would check those feeds yet, but her thighs pressed together when she thought of Dr. Stone stripping out of her top...

Then there was a chunk and a beep. The front door was opening—and Sue hadn't yet retrieved the flash drive from the laptop. Silently, the Invisible Woman cursed herself. She needed to make a decision, and fast.
