Chapter 4

And where are you going?
Subterranean Depths
"I must admit, I'm curious about these 'Subterranean Depths'," you say. "So, underground creatures?"
Your guide gives a polite cough, "Please sir, we prefer the term 'residents', but your assumption is nonetheless correct. Many of our underground residents are... Special cases." He holds up a hand to stop your obvious question, "Before I explain, I think it best you see for yourself. Suffice to say, many tend to remain underground for their own reasons. Please follow me."
With that, your guide leads you to an elevator, which of course goes down. He remains silent for a while, though with a pensive look, before speaking again as the elevator comes to a stop. "It's not really my place to say, but this is one of the least-visited environments within the facility, and those that do come down here tend not to stay for too long. It's also the environment with the least amount of residents. Lastly, it's quite the maze of tunnels, so try to stay close or you may get lost."
Placing his palm on a scanner beside the door, the door slides open revealing... A tunnel. Honestly, you expected a bit more. The walls were hardened dirt and rocks, with water trickling down, and faintly glowing moss grew everywhere. There were no lights so far as you could see, but the moss was just barely bright enough to ensure you at least didn't trip and fall. You did see the faint bit of what seemed like electrical wires, but there wasn't enough light to tell for sure. All in all, it seemed a fairly bleak place.
"Stay close sir," you guide says, motioning you to follow him forward. "Don't forget what I said about getting lo- Whoa, hey now!" He takes a step back as a little grey blur shoots across him from a side tunnel, before you hear a, "Wait was tha- Ow!". A moment later a little mouse girl steps into your line of sight, rubbing the side of her head. Your first thought upon seeing her was 'athlete', which seemed an accurate description. She had on a stylish hoodie that showed off her well-toned abs, and tight shorts which hugged her front showing off another part of her anatomy.
After a moment of silent staring, you look up as another presence comes into view. This one was a cute little mouse as well, also grey in color, her head coming in at about chest-height like the other, not including the ears. As she stood there looking at you in silence, you catch a hint of green eyes behind her comically large glasses. Unlike her more athletic looking counterpart, she seemed flushed and a bit out of breath, holding a book tight to her chest.
Before a word could be spoken, another presence became known, though this one was much harder to make out. She stood about as tall as yourself, with piercing violet eyes. Her black fur blended in with the darkness around her, making her eyes appear to glow all the more, though it was offset by the white streaks around her face and muzzle. You couldn't quite place her species though, definitely not a skunk.
Your guide finally cuts through the silence. "Well Miss Mora, I see Mina is giving you a 'run' for your money again."
The larger woman gives him a glare, "You're jokes are never funny you know, and for your information Mina isn't the one in trouble this time, for once. That aside, you know introductions come first when we have guests." She turns to you and gives a respectful nod, "If I may sir, I am Morissa, though most call me Miss Mora, a badger who tries to look after things down here. The two mice here are Mina, the one in the hoodie, and Mika, the one with glasses."
Grabbing the two by their ears, the badger leads them both away back down the tunnel. "If you would please excuse me, I have some lessons to teach. Though..." She gives you sly wink, "I'm always happy to teach another kind of 'lesson' if you can handle it."
With that she walks off with the other two in tow, the athletic one giving you an energetic wave while the other meekly glances at you with a cute blush. Your guide looks at you, "Would you care to continue sir? Or, if you would care to look at another environment, you may wait here for a moment while I talk with Miss Mora about a few things."
What do you decide, or maybe you've already decided?
