Chapter 137
by
Vain
Will they make it to lunch without complications? What's happening back at the cabin...?
Story time, with Gavin and Vicky
Gavin had been typing on his phone for almost two hours straight now - the longest yet since they arrived at the cabin -, with only a few minor interruptions from the girl that was still seated in the couch across the table from him. In fact, they'd only said a few words to one another after she finished her breakfast, and it was invariably regarding the site they were both visiting. Mostly it was her asking for his recommendation to another story or thread that she could read, though he'd also suggested she should create an account if she intended to read a lot, as it would both allow her a lot of functions that made browsing the many stories much easier.
"Oh, thanks!" She'd flashed him a quick smile, and a bit later she expressed her gratitude for the ability to view the story map, and also to actually be and see what threads she'd already read and not. A lot later she'd also asked him if it was difficult to write something on it, which he told her was really no different from many other forums, and then asked her in return if she intended to try it.
"N-not really!" She let out a nervous little laughter, with the blush rising on her cheeks again, but then just smiled softly while she seemed to ponder it for a while. "Perhaps later... If I can think of something I'd like to build on..."
"I think it'd be good with more female authors on there." He'd told her, though he wasn't too sure of how many percent of all the authors was male or female. "I think it would add more flavor to the site as a whole."
"Did Heather write anything yet...?" Vicky asked him, at the same time as he checked the clock, which made her too start realizing for how long they'd been sitting there.
"Just a few." Gavin nodded, and found himself getting a little flustered as well when he remembered how they'd actually ended up talking like this in the first place. "She didn't show you?"
"No, only one of your's!" The blonde laughed a little, and then allowed him to guide her to where the other girl had continued on one of his own threads.
"Oh, right... I've read these ones already..." She mumbled as she started reading, but seemed to continue browsing the nearby pages anyway, and eventually looked up at him with a curious gleam in her green eyes. "You seem to get along really well on here... So why don't I ever see you talking to one another in real life...?"
"Kind of like we are right now...?" He asked her with a quick smile, but then realized it may have come out a bit wrong, and found himself unsure of how to continue. "I mean... I don't think we have that much in common really. Me and Heather, I mean...!"
"You're really synced in the writing at least." The blonde smiled back at him, still with that curious look on her pretty face, and then looked down to her phone again. "You've even commented on each other's stories on here, instead of discussing it in real life...?"
"I didn't even know it was her until after she wrote that thread!" Gavin defended himself - while laughing ironically -, which caused the girl to stare at him in surprise for a moment. "And I think she'd never seen the site before we arrived here either..."
"I'm still not sure how she even found the site in the first place, or figured out it was my writing..." He kept pondering out loud, as he realized he hadn't put much thought into it really. It wasn't that hard to figure it out however, as he remembered the first days in the cabin quite well, and with it came another revelation. "She must have checked my phone when I left it in our room... But then she must have unlocked it on the first three attempts...?"
"So, she's smarter than she looks...?" Vicky grinned at him, and made them both laugh a little. None of them would enjoy talking bad about any of their friends behind their backs, though they could both agree that the title of head cheerleader captain wasn't usually associated with higher grades in intelligence.
"Or I'm much too easy to read..." Gavin just shook his head at her, and was a little surprised as she suddenly pushed her own phone towards him across the table. "What now...?"
"Let me try!" She smiled, and obviously wanted him to do the same as they traded phones with one another. It may not have been the most romantic thing that Gavin could have come up with of course, but somehow it did feel a bit like the gesture sealed a connection between them.
"It... really wasn't that hard." Vicky laughed a little again, as she broke his code on her second attempt, which didn't really surprise him that much after all all. What he hadn't really counted on was the fact she'd start browsing his phone's content though. "Is this the one you're writing on right now...? Do you mind if I read it?"
"Uh, sure..." He agreed, but not without a certain degree of anxiety. For some reason it felt a lot more private to have someone read his unfinished work, than to let them comment on it when it was done. And then there was the risk she'd manage to just delete the whole thing by just clicking the wrong button, which he was quick to point out to her.
"Oh, sure! I'll be really careful!" She was quick to agree, and then started reading while leaving him to try and figure her own combination. By going along his own lines he tried a simple 'V' at first - which was obviously wrong -, and then started trying to think of what little he actually knew about her. Perhaps she'd picked something really clever for her combination, but then she might as well have grabbed something completely on random...
"I don't have a limit to the amount of tries actually." She told him after she looked up to find him lost in thought, and then flashed him a surprisingly mischievous little smile. "So you can keep trying, if you want your phone back!"
"Well, ok...?" Gavin accepted the challenge with a quick grin, even as he knew he should be more vexed about getting lost in the middle of his story, and suddenly had an idea of his own as he remembered he was almost done with that page anyways. "If you can finish that page for me then...?"
"Huh?" The blonde looked up at him in surprise again, but then nodded and smiled as well. "I guess I could try at least...!"
Is this leading them somewhere? And where's the others...?
