Chapter 3
by Genericc616
How do you prepare before you adventure to Aurora?
Stop by a tavern to get some information on Aurora
The trip into town in mostly uneventful, and even Vince's constant teasing and complaining couldn't phase you, as you guide the horse along a the dirt track towards town, with the morning birds singing as the sunk continues it journey skyward, bringing a warm radiant glow through the gaps in the tree's above. Vince tried to poke and pester you about your new bag, and what your mother was talking to you about, but you just brushed him off with short word answers, while you tried to process what today could mean. Could you really leave, and try and find adventure and fortune, you have to admit, the prospects do see appealing, and you can keep in contact with your family, and hell if you strike it rich, you could move your family over, and you could live in luxury. The idea is growing on you, but beyond the heroic tales you've heard from the stories that get sent back, you know almost nothing about Aurora. You decide to visit some of the taverns and see if you can find out some information before you go through.
You arrive just over an hour later, you guide the horse over to the market and, stable him in the pen with all the other pack animals used to pull carts, and pat your horse on the back, as you say goodbye, and ask him not to give Vince too much trouble, as you walk over to Vince as he finishes unloading sacks of produce onto a nearby crate to be taken by the merchant who bought the goods.
"Well this is where we part ways Vince." You say with a smile, as this is one person who you doubt you'll be missing, as her turns to you with a confused look on his face, and wipes some sweat from his brow covering his forehead in the dirt from some potatoes.
"What you talking about Sis?" Vince says as he turns around as you pick up and sling your heavy leather bag onto your back, it seems to fit you well, and thanks to some of the harder work you've helped Vince with it doesn't even feel that heavy, despite containing all it does.
"I'm heading to Aurora to make my fame." You say with a smile on your face, as saying it out loud makes you smile as it sounds right.
"You're shitting me, you're smart, and cute Sis, but you wont last a day in that place." Vince says as you finish checking your bag over before walking towards the big tavern which is across the way from the large stately house, with the big orange portal in the center of the garden.
"Deadly serious, that's what my mother was talking to me before we left, it was to say goodbye. Speaking of which Vince, I'd say it's been a pleasure, but it hasn't so I'll leave you with some sisterly advice. Be nice to a woman, and actually listen to her, and you might just find one who'll let your roll in the hay with them." You say as wave to Vince as you walk round the corned and see the tavern where you think you should be able to get some information on Aurora.
The tavern itself is a tall building, originally it housed the people who first came from Aurora and swapped tales and stories with the locals of Drear, which is how it got its name, the tall tale. You walked into the lively building, although quieter than its normal reputation, but still impressive given it was still early in the morning. You rummaged around in your bag and fished out a few silvers of your own savings, which should serve as ample to get yourself a nice refreshing drink of orange Juice while you try and coax some information from the barkeep. The barkeep smiles at you as he spy's the bag that you place in the stool next to you, as you place down the silvers. He explains to you a few details of what he's heard of Aurora, and that a smart girl like you could make a living in the adventuring life, as there are many strange monsters that plague Aurora, which they pay adventures to get rid of, but that if you have the right kind of mind, that you could also earn a very good living studying the arcane arts, strange studies of unknown forces, not present in Drear, that can allow a person to do all kinds of untold power, such as the ability to command fire at your whim, or even instill untold power into weapons and armor, that could surpass anything a master smith could hope to make, if anything Aurora seem to be in short supply of people, something Drear seems to have in abundance, although whether this is from the dangers of the land, no one is willing to say.
You thank the barman, and give him the directions of your family's farm so that any packages or letters you send back can be forwarded to your family, if you leave a small handling fee with your delivery. You finish your drink and head off out to the grounds, where the large orange portal stands the orange mass shimmers and ripples in the air, as you walk towards it, you turn around and see Vince look at you, as you turn and wave and step through the portal, and get ready for whatever awaits you. Will you become an adventurer, and make a living off fighting monsters, or maybe you'll try and study one of those arcane arts, of course you could also be dragged into some sort of trouble.
What path awaits you as you step through the portal?
