Chapter 16 by aesirnights aesirnights

Are things working a bit too smoothly?

Step 4: Pay the tab

Tsan cast about, looking for the remaining pirates. The former captives were either scrambling for cover or laying flat on the deck making it difficult find them in the chaos. The noise was deafening with panicky screams and shouts and the sound of clashing steel from below the deck signalling that some of the crew had mounted a defense. Tsan was still holding the revolver, now depleted and without reloads. She began edging back towards the half-elf she'd grabbed it from, hoping he'd have more.

A shot rang out and the elf felt the impact strike the left side of her abdomen. Aside from the initial impact, there wasn't any pain and she looked down at the neat hole in her skin, before suddenly realizing it would be a good idea to have a seat. She took a half step to the nearest railing, and grabbed it to lower herself down. Leaning back against the rails, she could only smile as the young man from before scrambled to her, urging her to lay down properly as he spoke reassuring words in a panicky tone.

She wasn't really following his words, just staring at his face. He was, she decided, rather cute. Then he pressed a cloth over the wound to staunch some of the bleeding and the world with all the pain came rushing at her. "Aie! Sin'as ayet de'saan!"

"Didn't catch most of that but I'm going to assume it was elvish profanity. That's okay, you can curse, just stay with me." There were loud thumps and then a high-pitched whine, building until it seemed to snap, air rushing over Tsan and messing the young man's hair as he comforted her as best he could.

Heavy boots approached. "Get away from her ye'-" She heard Roblin's voice as if it came from far away.

"I'm a doctor! Get me my bag from my room! Black leather bag, this long, full of medical supplies! Go!" The young man was in too much of a panic to be intimidated by Roblin's bulk, and he sent the half-breed scrambling off before turning to Tsan. "It will be alright." He took her hand in his. "You'll be right as a summer's rain."

Tsan did her best to smile up at him. "This... was a very bad plan." She admitted.

Is there a reward for poor choices?
