"Yank!"
All of a sudden I felt my arm being grabbed and pulled along.
I nearly stumbled before I caught myself. Having no choice but to follow in step or I would fall.
“I have been looking for you all around Claire what were you thinking missing both the scripture readings and even morning prayer.”
“Just wait a sec, what is..”
“No time to talk we should at least still make it to holy mass and you will definitely get a rightful scolding once the Abbess finds out.”
She didn’t even let me get a word in.
“Just wait a sec, where are w..”
“We are going to the main hall of course.”
She dragged me across the courtyard.
“That’s not what I…” I stop for a moment everything seemed to slow down as I saw my reflection in the pond.
Blond hair, blue eyes and an all too familiar nun habit. I knew who that was.
“I know you haven’t been here for long and the sudden news….”
I blended out my surroundings not even hearing what she was saying simply letting myself be dragged along.
Shortly after I found myself in a chapel surrounded by fellow nuns and dozens of villagers. The woman had guided me to a free spot before scurrying to the front.
A long procession and reading of scriptures followed with some religious hymns in between but non of that mattered to me.
Neither did I found the outfits of the villagers around me strange or even the giant Statue of a Goddess which might have clued me in if I hadn’t seen my reflection before.
Non of it really mattered. This wasn’t my world.
From the moment I saw my reflection all the puzzle pieces clicked in. Had it been unconscious bias or had I avoided that possibility on purpose. At least the name should have made me wonder but I thought the possibility too ridiculous to even consider.
“Status.” I whispered sealing my fate as the world responded to my inquiry.
