Startle Eye

The roper girl seems like she is a subterranean creature and with that huge red eye it seems reasonable that she would be susceptible to the blinding, holy light of Startle Eye. You holding your hand out, palm up and take a step closer to the roper girl.

“What is it? What do you have for me?” She coos, her tentacles quivering with anticipation. “Come closer yummy little boy. I can’t quite reach it.”

“Lucas, be careful,” says Hina.

“Veleda, shine your light upon me,” you softly murmur, taking another step closer to the roper girl. “Blind my enemies with your holy radiance. Bless me with your light.”

You feel the power gathering invisibly in your hand. You take another step closer to the roper girl to the spot where you were standing when she initially tried to grab you. Her tentacles slither closer, taking a wide course to try to avoid your notice. You see them as you take another step closer, uttering a final prayer and closing your eyes.

The flash of light in the palm of your hand is so bright that it seems as if your eyes are not close at all. You see through the pink haze of your eyelids as the roper recoils from the blinding light. She shrieks and flails her tentacles, knocking you off-balance but too distracted herself to take advantage of it. You recover quickly from the flash and charge forward, brandishing the cleaver you looted from the castle’s kitchen.

“Not faiirrrr!” The roper girl wails, her tentacles thrashing and smacking wetly against her fleshy pedestal and her naked female body. You ignore the temptation to show mercy and swing the cleaver at her head with enough **** to take her head from her shoulders.

The moment the blade connects there is a sharp crack and a flash of light. The roper girl is gone and a tiny silver figurine in her effigy is on the floor at your feet. You pick it up, feeling the magic of the roper girl contained within it.

“Master,” says Hina, stumbling towards you. “My vision is imperfect.”

You look at the beautiful golem and see that her usually blue or rosy-pink eyes are now almost pure white. She blinks several times and the blue tint seems to be gradually returning.

“Are you alright, Hina?” You say, helping to steady her.

“In a moment, master,” she says. “That light was far beyond my ability to compensate for illumination changes.”

“Good to know if you ever turn evil and try to kill me,” you chuckle.

“I could detail other weaknesses,” she suggests.

“Let’s hope it doesn’t come to that,” you say. “Now, we had better catch this elf before she gets away with your crystal wheel.”

“Yes, up there, master,” she says, pointing to the stairs. “If she reaches the limits of my spatial enclosure then I am doomed.”

“Right, let’s make sure that doesn’t happen,” you say, racing towards the stairs and pulling Hina along behind you.

The iron stairs and catwalks sway disconcertingly as you begin your arduous climb to the surface.
