Chapter 5 by Altira Altira

What next?

Starting to figure things out

As John walked around the campus, he couldn't help but feel a little hungry. He had skipped breakfast that morning in his rush to get out the door, and now his stomach was growling. He decided to stop at a coffee shop he had seen on his way and pick up a breakfast sandwich and some coffee.

As John approached the counter, he reached into his wallet to pay, but to his surprise, he found that it was empty. No cash, no debit card – nothing. Confused, he checked his pockets, but he still couldn't find any money.

The cashier, a friendly young woman, noticed John's confusion and asked if everything was okay. John told her about the missing money and apologized, but the woman just smiled and told him not to worry.

"It's no problem," she said. "Your payment has already been processed."

John was confused. "What do you mean?" he asked.

The cashier shrugged. "I don't know," she said. "I just saw your name on the screen and assumed you had paid already. Maybe it was some kind of promotion or something."

John thanked the cashier and took his food, still feeling a little bewildered. He had no idea what was going on, but he decided not to worry about it too much. He figured he would just enjoy his breakfast and figure it out later.

As he sat down to eat, John couldn't help but think about the strange computer he had found under his bed that morning. He remembered typing "I don't need money" into the screen, and he wondered if there was some connection between that and the missing money in his wallet. It seemed crazy, but he couldn't think of any other explanation.

As the day went on, John noticed that he didn't have to pay for anything else either. No matter what he wanted – food, drinks, even clothes – he was never asked for money. It was as if his statement on the computer had somehow made it true – he really didn't need money anymore.

John was both relieved and a little scared by this realization. He wasn't sure how he was going to explain it to anyone, and he wasn't sure if he even wanted to. But for now, he decided to just enjoy the freedom and not worry about it too much. He had a feeling that this was just the beginning of a very strange and interesting journey.
