Start at the Beginning Pt 14

"Whoa!"

Jubilee laughed and Gwen snickered. Walt sighed. "Yeah, yeah."

"It's very... retro!" Gwen said.

Jubilee grinned. "Blast from the past! Looking good dude! Wearing those threads do you want to play some alternative and grunge?"

Walt shook his head and tugged at the leather jacket, vintage combat boots, flannelshirt and ripped jeans with a vey old "X" t-shirt. "Yeah, yeah... I know. The 1990s are calling. Can't believe that junk in the attic has survived the place being blown up, leveled, razed and destroyed! What the hell is that attic made out of? It's a freaking time warp up there going back to the 60's!" He shrugged. "Piotr's stuff fit best with a few things of Logan's..."

The girls were giggling but... they grinned at each other. He looked pretty good despite how dated the look was. "You should grow your hair out man!" Jubilee said. "All that and a bag of chips!" She laughed.

"Booyah!" Gwen laughed.

"Da bomb!" Jubilee added grinning.

"Pretty fly!" Gwen giggled.

Walt rolled his eyes. "Alright. So whats the 411?"

The girls laughed. "Well the councils discussing your entry, Walt. But you'll get in. You're a latent mutant. Walt nodded and Gwen blinked. "Whoa wait... seriously?"

Jubilee and Walter looked at each other and laughed. "Technically a lot of folks are!" Walt said. Jubilee nodded, "As a Spider-Woman you'll probably be labeled as one too. We accepted Peter Parker a few years back at the school for a counciling position when... well. We needed a councilor."

Walt blinked. He put his hand on Jubilee's shoulder. "What happened?"

She shook her head. "X-drama as you'd call it... it was no big-"

"There's X-drama and then there's fucking X-Tragedy," he said. "Better or worse than the day Illyana died?"

Jubilee shuddered even after all these years that was a painful memory. Watching Illyana die a scared little girl had been hard for her and she'd spent a lot of time around Illyana in her last moments trying to make her smile and laugh. "Better but not much. Logan died and we needed a councilor... of course just like with Illyanna it didn't stick... did you know she's a demon lord now or som-"

Walt had hugged her. "I'm sorry Jubes. That must've been... hard. Sorry I wasn't around."

Jubilee hugged him back. "Thanks... and it's just how crazy X life is."

Walt nodded then chuckled. "What was it some of the kids used to call this place again?"

Jubilee laughed. "We're-All-Gonna-Die High!"

Walt chuckled. But it was the sad truth that, in this fictional reality, the school's kids watched their teachers head out to put their lives on the line routinely for a world that wasn't so nice... sometimes they cameback victorious, sometimes beat-up and sometimes they didn't. And sometimes the danger came here. Xavier school was special for a lot of reasons.

Gwen raised her hand. "So getting back to the topic Walt's a mutant?"

Walt shook his head. "No. I'm a latent mutant. Turns out a lot of people are. I have a slight ability/tendancy that might never manifest as a "power"."

Gwen cocked her head. "But the things I've seen you do! You're not "normal" so I assumed..."

Walt laughed. "I'm "evolved" or "enhanced" differently. Hmmmm... how to explain?" He thought. "I started as a normal person and through hard work and determination I pushed myself to the uppermost limits again and again and again. Then I surpassed them. Then I kept doing that on my journeys to different realities. I had a few augmentations here and there but yeah. Mostly that's it."

Gwen blinked. "You became superhuman because you "worked hard" at it?"

Walt nodded. "Short answer yes. I pushed past my limits. Again and again. I had some small things that helped along the way but by basically restarting from zero in tons of realities I got incredibly strong. Longer answer is... complicated."

Gwen blinked. "That's... kind of crazy to think about."

Walt chuckled. "I hear that a lot."

"Anyway what's up with you two?" Jubilee asked. Walt sighed but he and Gwen nodded. "Well..."

Jubilee looked at Walt. "Ok, yup... I see what you meant earlier. It'd have been easier for you to just go to the Tree House. Still I'm super glad you guy's came out here!" She grinned. "Also... the fact you've been zipping around the multiverse is pretty cool! So you need us to use Cerebra to look and see if any mutants have gone missing from this one? And in some verses the X-Men are harder to checkup on then others because they're more closed off?"

Walt and Gwen nodded. "Pretty much."

Jubilee laughed. "Then I should come with you! I can be a mutant representative or negotiator! And-"

Walt shook his head. "And do what? Get a babysitter? Gwen and I coming out to 616 to pick you up and drop you off as well as all the other things we need to cheek up on? I feel bad enough using Gwen as a multiversal Taxi as is!"

Jubilee crossed her arms but Gwen nodded. "She's got a point we could use a X-Person or something like them but Walt's got a point too. You can't bring a kid with us and-"

Jubilee sighed. "I know. It's a less than ideal situation all around! I just thought..."

Walt winced knowing Jubilee and how she'd been treated pretty much her whole life... he sure as hell wasn't going to do that! "Alright. You want in, you figure out a way to make it work and you're in. No kids though! I mean it! I'm not taking some kid along to Zombie world. Too The Walking Dead for me!"

Jubilee laughed and hugged him happily! While Gwen stared shaking her head.

"What?" He asked.

She chuckled. "You don't get women at all do you? I mean you sorta do halfway but half an idea is often times worse than no idea!"

Walt was confused but Jubilee laughed happily. "He's ALWAYS been like that Gwen! That's why I knew it would work! He's a clueless dude but he's a good clueless dude!"

Gwen rollled her eyes and Jubilee hugged her too. "Come on! You like that too!" She whispered softly in her ear. "That he caves in way to easily for you too, doesn't he?" Jubilee watched her blush and grinned. "I knew it. Gotcha! You have him wrapped halfway around your finger already! Well that's fine as long as you are good to him. He's special." She grins and says louder. "Let's be friends Gwen! Whaddya say?"

Gwen looked at her smiling face and it was hard not to smile back. "Fine. I'm in too!"

"Awesome!" Jubilee said. "And I got a great idea!" She spread her arms out indicating all around them. "We can use this place as a "home base"! It'll be like old times!"

Walt blinked. "The mansion?! Uhh... won't people have something to say about that, Jubes?"

Jubilee shrugged. "Probably but it's not like they're using it. Like, at all! It's a sorta a Krakoa embassy slash gateway thing so we try to send someone out to check up on it occasionally but noones actually using it anymore! They're on the island and it's in the middle of nowhere. Besides where else you going to go?"

Walt shook his head. "I gotta go home, that's where. Remember?"

"Oh, yeah..." she said. "I did kinda forget for a moment. Sorry. Hey you were going to tell me about your girlfriend! Let's hit the pool and have some BBQ and beers and you can do that!"

Gwen stared at her. "What? Where are we going to get swimsuits? And it's Girlfriends."

"Whoa there-" Walt said.

"Inside." Jubilee jerked her thumb at the mansion. "You and I are about the same size and if that don't work I know we can find something. What do you mean "Girlfriends"?"

Gwen blinked. "He's got Girlfriends. Plural."

Walt slapped his forehead.

Jubilee blinked. Then she turned towards Walt. "Izzat so?" She pulled out a piece of gum and started chewing with attitude. "How interesting... I definitely want to hear more about that!"

"Jubes, I can-" Walt said.

"Come on, Gwen," Jubilation Lee took Gwen Stacy's arm and started heading for the mansion. "You can tell me inside." She reached in her pocket and tossed keys in Walt's direction. "Walt can get the barbecue going and then tell his side later." She turned her head to look back at him. "Riiight?" She blew a bubble.

Walt nodded and picked up the keys. "Yep."

Jubilee grinned and popped her gum with a wink. "Don't scratch the bike. You're only borrowing it from me and I'm borrowing it from Logan!"

Walt watched them go inside thinking *Hate to see you go, love to watch you leave* and sighed. "X-drama... well, shit."

He shook his head and went to check the grill, the kitchen and supplies and whatever it was that "seeds of Krakoa" grew before he went into town. Discretion was definitely the better part of valor sometimes!
