Simon, Kelly, Bella, and Melissa start off along the beach, waiving cheerfully to the others as they set out. A cool sea breeze plays along the shoreline as they walk, taking them by and by out of visual range of the two lifeboats and the other castaways there. Most of them have shucked out of their shoes and socks after about 10 minutes, those that were still wearing them, walking along the border of land and sea to protect their feat from the brutally hot black sand of the beach. They take breaks every 15 minutes or so to refresh themselves by dunking their heads in the surf and sitting for a count of sixty, but by the time the one hour mark rolls around they are all weary from the heat and ready to turn around.

It is Simon, out of shape and exhausted from the long march, who finally calls for a full halt. "Um, hey!" He croaks at the others who have gotten ahead of him. "We've been gone an hour, don't you think it might be time to turn back?!?" He calls weakly after the others.
