Izzy took you and Emma upstairs and everywhere was fitted with baby gates that you were sure wouldn’t be getting any use for at least another few months.

You almost forgot about spying but a few more photos of him and Izzy caught your eye and brought you back to the reason why you were here.

Those thoughts were again replaced as soon as Izzy took you to what you now knew was Jack’s room and you got a look at the boy asleep in the cot further into the room.

“You caught us at a good time actually, he’s usually a lot noisier than this but I just managed to get him to go to sleep before you knocked” Izzy whispered, a mother’s smile on her face as she looked down at her son.

Your half-brother lay there without a care in the world and it felt like your earlier hesitation was completely silly now, feeling a sense of kinship with him that you didn’t expect to feel. Both of you were likely to get screwed over by your father but now you had a chance to be there unlike with the issues Lucy had had when you were younger.

You took a step closer to the side of Izzy just to get a closer look at him while you were trying your hardest not to make any sudden or startling noises.

“He’s beautiful” were the only words you could find in the moment and Izzy gave you a smile as she recognised who you were to each other.

Without even realising it, you felt a light jolt on your arm and Izzy pulled back, looking down to see your arm had been resting against hers while you had been preoccupied with the cot in front of you.

Izzy dismissed it and you gave an apologetic look but you both stayed silent which was more comfortable than you expected. You turned to see Emma had stayed further back in the room but you waved her over to take your place.

Emma moved over and Izzy saw you take a step back giving you a chance to take a moment away from the situation.

“Sorry, bathroom?” you mouthed, trying to be polite while also keeping quiet.

Izzy pointed some vague directions to you and you were able to go out into the hall and find the room and get yourself some privacy. You also peaked your head into the other rooms you passed but you didn’t have the time to do a full investigation.

Once in the bathroom, you sat yourself down and brought out your phone, knowing what awaited you as you booted up the app.

It was only then that you remembered that you still had the spy gear on you that Grace had put on you. You didn’t think you had mumbled to yourself or said anything incriminating while on your own but the fact that it had briefly slipped your mind while everything was going on was enough to scare you a little.

The fact that she didn’t hear anything at all might be suspicious as you were supposed to be using the bathroom but you figured you could say you used that as an excuse to look around instead of actually going.

With the brief scare out of the way, you went back out onto the landing and into Jack’s room, seeing Izzy now holding him in her arms with Emma right there next to her.

“Do you wanna come say hello?” Izzy asked when she saw you come through the door, Emma turning to face you as well when her attention had been solely on Jack.

“Yeah sure, I thought he was asleep?” you said back, rejoining the three of them.

“So did I, but, what can you say? Here,” Izzy replied, rocking Jack back and forth before holding him out for you to take.

Again you had a brief moment of hesitation but it wasn’t like before, this time scared that you would mess something up instead of your worry about Jack.

Izzy guided you through it though and got Jack in a comfortable position in your arms and he looked back up at you as you cradled him against your chest.

“Hey buddy” you greeted, watching him look at you and then back to his mother as if deciding whether or not he wanted to go back to her.

Izzy stood there at your side and while your main focus was on not dropping your half-brother, the seconds were ticking by with Izzy keeping her arm with Jack which was also touching you in the process.

Emma was also clearly enjoying the baby atmosphere as she played with him and while you hadn’t had any real serious conversations about kids given that you had been literally going out for less than two weeks, you could imagine her being a great mom.

You handed Jack back to Izzy and she invited you back downstairs to resume your conversation in the kitchen, now with Jack in her arms to join you this time. There was still definitely more you wanted to talk about but as you headed down, you heard a chime ring out from Emma’s pocket and she got out her phone to take a look, knowing it was likely Grace on the other end.
