Something weird is going on in the world

You see James before he sees you. He looks more worried than you can remember seeing him before.

He looks up as you approach.

Alex : "Hey dude, what's going on?"

James : "Did you leave your phone behind?"

Alex : "Yeah, is everything ok?"

James : "Have you been watching the news?"

You think back over the past week and no, you really hadn't been keeping up with what was going on in the wider world. You used to try and keep up with news events but you've had your hands full with Cerve.

Alex : "Honestly no, I've been pretty busy."

James : "Then you've missed a lot"

Alex : "Has something horrible happened?"

James : "The opposite actually. Everything is going far too well."

You're starting to think your friend might have lost it.

Alex : "That, uh doesn't seem like a problem?"

James : "We have promising peace talks in the middle east. Cures to the most common types of cancers announced. A firm has filed a patent for a simple and cheap way to pull carbon directly out of the air. There's a new **** that essentially cures addiction. All in the last week."

Alex : "That's unbelievable"

James : "Exactly, it can't be believed, at least not under normal circumstances."

Alex : "What do you mean?"

James looked at you like what he was saying should have been obvious.

James : "Dude, you have an AGI that you said was creating companies and earning money that came out around the time things started to change. Put two and two together."

Alex : "You think Cerve is curing cancer and solving global warming?"

James : "Either she is or some other AI is."

Alex : "That's a good thing though isn't it? Why the cloak and dagger stuff?"

Frustration came over his face. James was like this sometimes. He would build up this whole constellation of things in his head that fit together perfectly but then struggle to communicate them.
