Something unexpected

You step out of the elevator into what looks like some kind of underground hideout or bunker. Your first thought is that this is some kind of old abandoned bomb shelter constructed during the cold war, but the place looks clean and outfitted with modern technology and wiring.

The bunker seems to be massive as you start to explore, coming across different rooms, all of which have no doors on them, some with various devices in them, some empty, and you even come across a kitchen stocked with snacks and bottled drinks. At some point, you stumble upon a room that is empty except for a large metal cylinder on an incline. You're about to keep walking when you hear a low humming sound from the cylinder. You pause and listen closely, realizing that the cylinder must be powered by something, and that increases your curiosity. You step into the room, looking around cautiously at the plain walls, and approach the cylinder. It's a plain looking metal cylinder with some tubes and wires sticking out the back, and there's a glass panel on the top that's fogged over. Whatever is inside must be cold, you deduce.

Leaning forward, you use your hand to wipe the condensation on the glass away, and what you see startles you so much that you jump back and almost fall over. Your heart is pounding while you try to calm yourself down before taking a couple of steps forward to the cylinder again. This time, knowing what to expect to see, you lean forward for a closer look.
