Something surprizing...

"Who's that pokemon?" the display shows a sillhoutted image with crepuscular stripes, similar to how the quiz event on the show would appear. That's not right.

That's not right at all. Is this some new beta feature they are trying out? Such a crazy idea, I'm trying to understand what's going on around me, not be part of some silly game. If I knew what pokemon was before me I wouldn't have asked!

There are three options underneath I can choose from: Meowth, Pikachu and Sneasel. I don't really feel like figuring this out so I just pick Meowth hoping this is the right answer. Suddenly the screen fills up with a bright, purple light, and I feel a very strange sensation. I become weaker, my stomach feels funny, I'm vibrating all over and it feels I'm lifted up even as my feet are planted firmly on the ground. When I look around I see that I went from being a head taller than the pokemon, to barely an inch or so. What's going on?

"It is Sneasel!" The pokedex says in a celebratory voice, disregarding the fact I completely botched the question, and revealing the image of the girl in an actiony pose. "Sneeeasel!"

"What the hell? Did you just grow?" I ask, more confused than I could possibly imagine myself to be. "Of course not, silly! You were the one who shrank!" the pokemon known as Sneasel laughs jovially as I give her a look of incredulity and more confusion. "How..." I start before realizing I don't know what question it is I'm asking. "Oh, I met up with a senior Pokedex technician couple of months back. Made him make a chip that will shrink you down to half your mass if you fail to answer its question, in exchange for leaving him alone for his vacation. I installed it in your pokedex while you were sleeping! Ain't that hilarious?"
I scratch your head... I went from a presentable 172cm to half of that... no, that's not right. Then I'd be much shorter than the Sneasel. She said half my mass, meaning my density either increased or my volume decreased. Seeing as the latter definitely apply, and I still have the same proportions as before, my height must have decreased with some percentage, my width with the same percentage and my depth with the same percentage. That's three times... not to the power of three. Something to the power of three, times my weight equals half my weight, meaning the cube root of one half... or approximately eighty percent my former height.

Damn, it's good we went over this during engineering class. So I'm about 137 and a half centimeters tall now.

The sneasel snaps her finger in front of me. "Helloooo? You in there, lil guy?" I shake my head. "But wait! This isn't how the pokedex works! This isn't how anything works!" I exclaim. No microchip should be able to install a shrinkray into a computer like this.

"Oh really? Then prey tell, how *does* it work?" She asks folding her arms. I open my mouth to answer but realize I got nothing to say. Noone really knows how a pokedex work, not under a certain level. I know it's connected to the pokeball technology somehow, which does seem to involve shrinking at some point... so I guess it's maybe possible? "Fair point..." I simply sumrise. "But can you restore me now? I can't walk around as tall as a kid. " The sneasel smirks. "Oh, your size will be restored all right... just as soon as you guessed *every* pokemon on the island! Don't worry, there's only forty of us around here."

I blink. "F-forty? You gotta be kiddind me!" If I fail to identify one third of that I'll be nine and a half centimeters tall, and if I only guess I'm expected to fail two thirds of the time! At some point I will become so tiny a pokemon can just swipe me up as her prey, and then where will I be? Tsk... this sneasel though....
